I was at Grootkolk way back in 2004, and now on 1 January 2013 I stayed at Gharagab!
Grootkolkk is nice is you still want to do game drives in the morning and afternoon, its basically 1km from the public road, so easier to access
Gharagab however is great if you just really want to calm down, rest and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and experience the vastness of the kalahari from the viewing platform!
The closest waterhole is Dankbaar, but is currently dry. And they not sure when they will fix it
My choice? Do both, seeing that you are up in the northern part of the park, I will do Grootkolk first, and Gharagab next evening!
