BOOK SWOP SHELF

Unread postby Shushin » Sat Jul 06, 2013 2:09 pm

Welcome to the book swop shelf.

A place where we can share the books we have read and no longer may have room for.

There are a few rules to bear in mind:

Only books that fit in with/listed on the SANParks Bookshelf forum can be considered for this service.

SANParks and the SANParks VHRs will not be held responsible for any disputes regarding book swops. All queries are to be conducted between the two parties either by PM or email.

PM’s are to be used for the admin details regarding all book swops.

Books that are on offer for a swop to be listed in this topic.

Please only request the book if you are willing to re-post and send to another forum member.

Postage must be paid by the sender of the book. No money/cash may change hands.

Books may not be sold amongst forum members.

Please let other people know what you thought of a book on this topic, a short comment if you have one. Your recommendation will help other people choose which book to read next.

Please consider book swops when going to a forum meet; again list these here first, with a link on the relevant meet topic.

If you have any spare books at home that you’ve enjoyed but no longer need, please donate them to the shelf too. We hope you enjoy reading these books, and finding out more about your fellow forum members recommendations.

This initiative has been approved by the SANParks VHRs.

I will start this off with the following.

The Silent Heroes of the African Bush. By Jon Roderigues ISBN 062031446X 9780620314466
Is a thrilling, nailbiting and sometimes humorous look at man's attempts to survive the dangers of the animal kingdom, where one false move can lead to disaster and possible death! It portrays a kaleidoscopic journey into the world of the game rangers and scientists in the South African national parks and their close and life-threatening encounters with the animal kind.
this one has been taken by Tiggercat :) posted 10/07/13

The Wilderness Family. By Kobie Kruger ISBN 9780553813340
This is Kobie Kruger's intimate account of raising a family in the isolated wilderness of South Africa's vast Kruger National Park. It reflects her deep love for the wilderness and her respect for all its creatures, great and small.

The Ivory Trail. By T.V Bulpin ISBN 9781868121731
The story is about Bvekenya (one who swaggers as he walks), King of ivory poachers, who for 20 years, an adventurer of the wilds, defied police of 3 countries, Rhodesia, Mozambique and South Africa.

I like this idea.

Only problem is I think for myself, and other non-SA members, the postage costs will be a bit high. :hmz:
Anyhows an excellent idea for you guys in SA

Yoda, Shushin whose initiative this is, is from the UK. I think the idea was that 'mites all over the world can offer their books for swop here, and anybody who is interested can take up the offer. Maybe I misunderstood it? :hmz:

No Hilda you are correct it is for mites everywhere. I do not think the postage will be a great amount. I have no problem sending anywhere.

This is an absolute must read for ANY Kruger lover and visitor. I suggest you grab this offer if you have not read the book.

Hilda, Shushin,

Yup, I realise that it is open to mites all over the world.
My concern though is the cost. I recently sent a magazine to family in SA, registered of course because I didn't want it to "disappear". Was £13 (R200 approx)
And that was for a thin magazine. A book would have been a lot more.
For that sort of money, it is more cost effective to buy a new one off ABE!

That is quite expensive Yoda! :(

Maybe one should look for offers in the same country where one lives, just to avoid that ridiculous postage!

I suppose I will get a shock on Saturday when I am going to send a book to Switzerland by registered post and airmail! Fortunately it is not a very thick book!

Hilda,

Let us know how much it comes to; if it is reasonable

With ABE Books, it's quite easy to find a cheap, 2nd hand copy of most books out there.

WHY has this been moved -- no one interested in possaibly sharing books is going to be looking at VHR projects?!? And what does a voluntary sharing of books amongst forumites have to do with a VHR project anyway?!? FAR too much beaurocracy and 'big brotherness' IMO  Do you VHRs have to control everything?!? Another nice idea hijacked.
