Lol that leopard having bacon for breakfast at Afsaal must have caused quite a stir amongst the breakfast makers. Great memories of the Kruger trips of you and your Dad BB.

Yes on both counts GM.

'Action' at picnic spots is what I dream of, but all I get is agamas or spiders.

At Timbavati picnic site, my friends experienced some amazing action the day after we introduced them to it, but that was lunch time so it doesn't qualify for this thread......

:hmz: no BB :naughty: you need to tell us. Start a new thread "action at Picnic Spots" so that we can read what happened.

OK, but don't tell the mods. I am risking serious 'off topic' here.

The friends had just finished their lunch....make it very late brekkie, and were packing the car.
Someone shouted 'LEOPARD", as one flashed across the picnic site between the remaining guests and grabbed one of the 'tame' bushbuck that beg for food there, and rolled off the far end of the picnic site and ran off with its prey.

We were 24 hours too early. :wall: :wall: :wall:

Oh my Goodness BB, what a story to tell your friends have.   Absolutely amazing!!

Could that be why some people are always fashionably late?? :hmz: :hmz:

It was their first visit to Kruger. They were traumatized. :wall:

What I would have given to swap with them, while I was watching bambi.

We missed out on breakfast altogether in December when we were in the Kruger. Packed everything in the car, thinking we'd hire one of the Afsaal skottels to cook it. It was only after getting into the Park, and getting hungry, that we realised our tragic mistake.

Afsaal is on the road in from Malelane Gate, not Crocodile...so we settled for a toasted sarmie each at Lower Sabie. (Sidenote: although Kruger restaurants aren't cheap, has anyone bought a toasted sarmie from Steers/Wimpy lately? Ye gads! It's not a whole lot cheaper!!)

Me too BB, isn't it strange, we have been going to Kruger for almost 35 years, never seen a kill, friends of ours went for the first time and lions killed a giraffe right in front of them in the road

Go to Kgalagadi for kills Carol, and ride the river roads in the mornings. There are lots of hungry cheetahs and no bush to obscure the view.

So true Kathy sa . I think it must be the fresh air, quietness or something  . Some call it "the Kruger atmosphere" - perhaps it is the spirit of the Kruger, who knows.

I usually have a couple of OUMA rusks with my first morning coffee when in KNP. Started the habit when we used to go camping and I preferred getting up before anybody else. Sit outside in the dark and wake up easy. Guess you may call the breakfast? :D

My best then would be the one on the deck of Tent 4 at Punda Maria with the resident leopard rasping just outside the fence beneath us. I honestly didn't feel like grabbing the light and maybe scare it away by looking for it. The experience was magical enough. 8)
