I am trying to do my bit for energy conservation. I recently took out my Stanly flask to fill with boiled water for coffee through the day.

Each time I fill it with water memories of coffee moments come rushing back. Th times of sipping coffee at water holes, or significant places.

Where are your bitter sweet moments?

This was taken at Mestel dam on New Year's morning.

Nice way to spend New Years morning MM :)

Leaving Punda Maria Camp when the gates open to drive the Mahonie Loop and sit at the waterhole nearest to camp and watch the Impalas when they are there sometimes. Early morning coffee and the Mahonie Loop go very well together for us.

Agree with Grantmissy - leaving Punda as the gates open - but, head to Klopperfontein Dam. The extra distance just makes that first cup/mug taste sooooooo much better! Especially if the Buffs and Ellies are around :)

I guess 98% of Kruger visitors still enjoy taking their flask of coffee along when they do an early morning drive. The remainder 2% have tea, I think :hmz: That coffee smells and taste especially nice when it is in the summer and there was rain overnight and a person’s window is open to smell the fresh air of the veldt.

I've shared this photo in an earlier TR, but it remains for me one of the most beautiful moments.

Late afternoon just outside Satara, September 2009. (No filters)

For me the best place for the morning coffee is the lookout point inside Olifants camp! If you see the sunrise and maybe hear the sounds of Hippos or other animals down in the riverbed it's a wonderful experience
Another nice place is Shitlhave dam

Whenever I am in the supermarket and I see "Safari Fruit Dainty Squares" (dried squares of fruit sprinkled with sugar) I always think of the Kruger because when we are on drives during the day we always nibble on them......please hurry 19 December 2013

Beer was made for men watching sports; Wine for romantic dinners; and Coffee solely for game viewing. That is my summary of the history of important beverages in the world. I'm not often a coffee drinker - the caffeine does things to my stamina gland when I least want it - but, when out on an early morning drive in Kruger, it HAS to be coffee and buttermilk rusks. Obligatory. Sometimes a challenge to meander a dirt road into the rising sun and balance the lips on the edge of the mug such that the sloshing milky coffee doesn't end up being aspirated or dumped on pristine clothing, but always obligatory. There have been times when a GREAT sighting has interwoven with still-hot coffee sipping, and those moments - like the leopard on the reservoir wall at Rabelais Dam, or the wild dogs in the rain near Croc Bridge - are the pinnacles of bush magic that are both irreplaceable and unsurpassable. Some people see pictures in tea leaves; I see reflections in coffee.

Tent Dweller, OWN, ( ) DB, NetEk, Flying Cheetah.. indeed we are kindred spirits.

Grantmissy :yaya:

Dupacc, what a gorgeous picture... just.. sigh.. bitter sweet outside Kruger.

This is a May shot at Mestel dam. Although I have never had good sighting there, I love the peace of just relaxing.

MM, when we stay in Pretoriuskop we go to Mestel Dam every morning and every evening, as you can see we are going to be in Pretoriuskop close to the end of December and then again the beginning of Jan 2014, so you know where we are going to be most mornings and evenings

Tent Dweller, I am pleased to hear from another Pretorius Kop fan. 8) It certainly has many treasures. Shitlehave dam is another great place to just sit.

One morning while staying at Tambotie I took an early drive towards Talamatie.

I pulled up at a water hole for my morning coffee and sat a while.

Everything was utterly silent. Not even the birds seemed interested in this desolate place.

I waited a while thinking that I had certainly chosen a poor place for my first water hole stop.

Then this happened

There was a rustle through the bushes...

Image

a magnificent male lion appeared. He looked around

Image

drank and drank and drank and drank.. that was a mighty thirst

Image

and walked back into the bushes

Image

I was left.... alone, yet not alone. What wonder and awe in such bitter sweet moments.
