Sorry NetEk I do not know the melktert recipe. I have one for chocolate mousse though:

Easy Amarula Mousse

200 g good quality white milk chocolate
80 ml full cream milk
350 ml double cream
50 ml Amarula

Melt the choclate in the microwave oven – a few seconds at a time and stir until melted. Keep on checking not to cook or burn it. Heat the milk in the microwave just before it starts boiling and whisk in the melted chocolate. Leave to cool. Whip the cream until stiff and fold in the Amarula. Fold into the cooled chocolate mixture until you have a smooth mousse. Spoon into glasses and serve with extra thick cream and white chocolate savings on top.

Have a long glass of Amarula and plenty of ice with it 8) .

Note: Do not know about the kilojoules count :? but maybe over the festive holiday season a little Amarula cream chocolate mousse now and then is OK  and a health benefit - this mousse does not use raw eggs :D .

Now during the summer months, January to March, are the time when the Marula fruits for Amarula Liqueur are harvested. I think they must collect quite a few of those fruits to make sufficient bottles of Amarula to last for a year until the next harvest.

There are many legends and stories of the Marula fruit. One of them is that overripe Marula’s are used to brew "Mampoer" in South Africa. It is said that it is local fire water that makes grown men weep (probably if too much of the fire water is consumed, resulting in headaches). Apparently Mampoer was named after Chief Mampuru of the ancient Sekukuniland, who favoured this drink. Amarula sounds like a better and painless option for a sundowner.

For international travellers, it's cheaper in a bottle store than at the airport - R150 vs R199 at the airport. :(

We found it when we arrived in November. We were waiting for our flight to PE and wandered around the airport. Made a note of the price and when we saw it in the bottle store for less, we purchased it there. :D

It is a bit cheaper, but not much.
R150 at a bottle store vs R175 at Cape Town Int'l Airport.
But you can't bring a bottle through security, so are forced to pay the extra.

I'm a cheapscat. I buy Tau these days available at Liquor City at half the price. Not as creamy but if you are planning to mix it with ice-cream or coffee in any case it doesn't make a differance.....

No Sparrow. You first need to sample the new Amarula Gold and write a review of how it tastes here.
