As a child with my parents and brother I the 50's , we went in an old Anglia that had a double bonnet or hood ( they opened sideways). Then we went in relatives or friends cars, until my dad bought a Mini Minor station wagon, attached a tow bar and towed a trailer!!! We saw a lot of animals and the car used to do 54 gallons to a mile!!! My dad then bought a Chev van with a canopy. My brother, mother and I could sleep, view game, or play without disturbing the driver and whoever was sitting in front. For the last few years I would go in my dads1980 model Susuki 750cc Jeep or my Fiat Uno Fire.

Woweehow   You need your own oil refinery to keep up with the car's fuel consumption

Since my previous post on this topic, two more vehicles entered the equation: our eldest son now has a modified Audi A3 (very quick and ideal for the N4 bewteen Jhb and KNP   )while our youngest now has an Isuzu KB300 Double cab. (not so fast but high and great on dirt roads   ; might just get the nod)

Which one, which one? :hmz: :hmz:

I rented a Daihatsu Terios... and I received a Hyundai Tucson (for the price of a Terios). It was super, high, spacious... a very good car
I drove more than 8000 km... in 2 1/2 months

I would go for the Isuzu. More packing space but, the Isuzu diesels tend to be noisy which disturbs the peace and quietness of the bush. (Tell junior to swop it for a petrol double cab)

We have a Diahatsu Terios, what I like most about it is the space for the passenger (in the back) and also that it is high off the ground

Colt Rodeo 4x4 db cab, old but trust worthy, no fear of gravel roads and loads of space on back seat to keep water cold in cooler-boxes.
