what makes our parks so special ?

Fairly easy....

Its teh experience knowing your in an enviroment, that is being cared for and well managed. The same environment before man had any "carbon footed" impact...

It is how africa intended Africa to be, and we have a privalege to experience it, either fro the Mighty Elephant bulls in Kruger, to the night time sightings of Addo Blak Rhinos, to the desert lion of KTNP, to the shore life of Tsitsikama...

This is our home, its our heratige, and our legacy to the forthcoming generations. Weather we are wildcard holders, day visitors every visit is a contribution to teh ongoing work to maintain this pristine environent.

We have good sports teams, we have good anufacture exports, but the best we have to offer are our natural wonders, bird life, amal life, botannical life, marine life....over many biomes.

and yes ---- "getting away from it all"

What a beautiful thread. Thank you Bean.

The bush is my spouse, my lover, my mother my child.

Like a spouse the bush calls me. I answer, because it is the calling closest to my heart.
When I sit in moments of silence, the bush is my lover. It leaves me with traces of joy to last in the hours, days of separation.
The bush is my mother, it nurtures, feeds, enfolds.
The bush is my child. When I look into the eyes of an impie, I think that this is my purpose in life. To enjoy and relish each moment of care. Just as a mother drinks in her child's beauty, I drink in the impie, the vervet, the mongoose, the gerbil..

This is definitely not a single answer question. Where and how does one begin to answer a question about places that are not only beautiful, but therapeutic to my soul?

I am extremely privileged that I have visited 99 % of the Sanparks as well as numerous other parks - not only in Southern Africa but places as far afield as Borneo.

One of the multitudes of reasons that Sanparks is special is the diversity that is on offer. From the big seven reserve, to the big five reserves to the nature reserve where the smaller ‘over looked’ creatures and plants are sort after with as much enthusiasm as the big five. The little five – how often do I find the little five in one reserve? – They are there for the seeking.
Bird – from LBJ’s to soaring eagles – that my mind can escape into their world as they skitter from bush to bush or soar high above the clouds
Only Sanparks offer me a choice of carpets of flowers, floors of sand and shrubs or curtains of pounding water - under one umbrella with the animals I so eagerly seek.
Not only am I spoilt for choice on Mother Nature’s diversity – but I am spoilt for choice on how I want to live the experience. From ‘roughing” it under a tree to the ultimate in luxury of a private splash pool on the patio of my chalet.

I am rambling – but that is what the thought of being out in the bush does to me. I can sit at my desk and taste and smell the magic of being in the bush. My memories of magical moments revitalize my soul until the opportunity arises that once again I can visit one of the many places of sanity Sanparks offer.

For me its not only about the animals but more about space, away from the crowded everyday life, smell of the bush, the braai, sounds of our feathered friends during the day and night. Bats and geckos at night on the verandah.
Every year i return and every year i say: Lets go to Scotland next year.
