The mattress you mention, is that the canvas one? (No valve, just a hole)

That is the one , it has a plastic plug that looks like a wing nut .

yeah, they seem to be a bit better than the Intex/blue mattresses.
Out of interest, this is what I'm now using on hiking trips.

Does anyone own an Oztent RV model. I need to upgrade from my canvas travel tramp dome which is a little on the small side. I can pitch my dome myself which is only 1.5 metres high. I may have difficulties with taller domes. The Oztent RV is an easy pitch tent and I have only read glowing reports. I would love to hear from anyone who owns one.

I consider a lantern to be an essential part of my camping equipment .
I allways take a lantern along unless I go to a trails camp , this make can be bought for as little as R100 at a general dealer , the mall shops & boutique camping & outdoor stores charge nearly twice that amount .
I use citronella type lantern oil , quite expensive at around R25 per 200ml at the Spar , but that lasts around 25 hours and seems to help repell insects and has a pleasant aroma ..
