olympus any good?

Unread postby Dikkes » Wed Aug 04, 2010 11:33 am

Hi all,
I can get a Olympus 520 with a 18-180mm olympus lens second hand at a very good price [R1900]. Is it any good. The camera with lens have only been used for 9 months.

Regards
Dewet

Just be careful, its a 4/3s camera. The selection of lenses for the 4/3s sytem is not as big as for the other main makes. As far as I know its only Panasonic and Olympus that make lenses.

It is pretty cheap though, and you wouldn't get a Nikon or Canon with an equivalent lens for that price.

I'd have a look at the second hand market in SA, and see how easily you can resell it if you don't like it.

That's actually a good price!

DPreview has written a long review (link opens at the conclusion), and here's one by Imaging Resource.

Better watch out though with lenses if you want to go to the parks. That lens is a great walk-around lens, but at 180 mm way too short for parks like KNP, KTP and Addo.
Check first what's available, and at which price.

It looks like it. Scroll down a bit, seems they are sold.
