We are leaving next week and I got it as a present yesterday. Hope I still have enough time and cotton material to sew it. Well, I believe it won't look as good as yours.

Am sure it will look fine. I'd buy the rice in South Africa.

 Will do so, so glad that I found your idea of the beanbag. Just had a look in the cellar what kind of material I have....only pink, yellow, christmas design  , I believe the animals will run away

I like the solution that Kamadejo uses. Very versatile. Also, the problem with the GorillaPod is that it doesn't work so well with car windows. A solution someone told me about a while ago, but haven't used myself yet, is to cut a strip down the middle of a swimming pool noodle (preferrably a hollow one), and then it'll slip nicely over the top of the car window.

There's some advice that may be helpful here: http://www.kruger-2-kalahari.com/bean-bags.html and here: http://www.kruger-2-kalahari.com/photog ... icles.html on using beanbags and photographing from a vehicle.

I came across this old thread: Tripod, Beanbags and Other Rests. I haven't read all of it yet, but I imagine its useful.

I find it interesting that the same topics get rehashed all the time. I know there are a lot of old photography-related threads around too.

Mods, have you noticed any particular 'cycle' or regular period?

Should this topic be merged into the older thread?

Makes sense to merge the two. They are both about camera supports - the one discusses just bean bags and the other discusses beanbags plus tripods.

Quick and dirty beanbag for travel, take ziplock double zipper plastic freezer bag with you and when you get to your destination buy rice. Quart and Gallon ziplock bags work really great, the rice does not get wet and swell and you can throw it all away when you head back to the airport.

Zero space use ...

When we went to the Kruger a few years ago I made myself a beanbag. All I did was take an old pair of trousers (I used a pair my little boy had grown out of), sewed the legs up at the knees and then sewed some velcro along the waistband so it can be opened and closed. Once I got to SA I then simply filled it with rice, put one leg on either side of the car door and rested the camera on the top

Literally took me 15 minutes - and I'm terrible at sewing!

I could dig it out and take some photos if anyone wants........

I've had a look for it but it's not where I thought I'd put it - I'll have put it away somewhere 'safe' As soon as I find it I'll stick a photo on for you :D

I still can't seem to find it....... it wasn't where it should have been

I can't take the credit for the idea though - don't know where I found it but I definatly 'stole' the idea of the internet somewhere
