I have just purchased a new camera. It is a Kodak EasyShare P850. It certainly is a huge improvement from my old digital camera which was pretty standard.

I was in Tanzania and Kenya this year, my rucksack is listed http://www.1ds.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9&Itemid=11

Summarised as follows:-
1 x 1Ds Mark II (2 Canon Batteries, 1 x Quantum 2+2)
1 x 1D Mark II (2 Canon Batteries)
1 x Hasselblad H1 with Phase One P25 (Two batteries)
1 x 20D (Two batteries)

The Mark II’s are the main use cameras. H1 and 20D are the on the seat cameras for stuff that happens close and quickly, like a Cheetah or Leopard wandering by.

Lenses:-
1 x Canon 600/4 IS
1 x Canon 400/2.8 IS
2 x Canon 70-200/2.8 IS
1 x Canon 24-70/2.8 IS
1 x Hasselblad 80/2.8
1 x Hasselblad 35/3.5
1 x Hasselblad 150/3.5
2 x Canon 1.4x Teleconverter (Mark II’s)
2 x Canon 2x Teleconverter (Mark I and Mark II)
1 x Hasselblad 1.7x teleconverter

For next years trip to Kruger in April, my sister and beau are coming, so they'll take my 300/2.8 and 400/4DO as well. I have a D30 lying around, but I think that can stay home. Might chuck a 5D in the mix for them, or a 350D (or its replacement)

list goes on if you talk window mounts, wimberley heads etc etc....

always a worry in customs awaiting lenses to come through ... hehe

Cheers

Rob

I have had this camera for about 4 years and have been very happy with it, using it all over the world, but it is time to move up. So my next purchase will be a Canon Powershot S2 IS as soon as I find one on sale. :D

Olympus Camedia C-3020 Zoom
3.2 megapixels
Optical zoom 3 x
Digital zoom 2.5 x
Shooting modes Frame movie mode
Shooting programs Landscape, Night mode, Sports mode, Portrait mode
Special effects Sepia, Black & White

Batteries
2 sets of 4 rechargeable Energizer AA (Usually take 4 extra disposables)
Energizer charger (takes 15 hours :( )

Memory
5 - 128 MB Smart Media Cards (169 photos per card)
4 - 84 MB Smart Media Cards ((84 photos per card)
128 MB is maximum for this camera.

Photo organizer, editing software
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0

I'm presently moving from film to digital in preparation for my KNP visit in 2006. I have a few more elements to add, but here's what I've aquired so far:

Still camera
Canon 350D (called Rebel XT in the USA)
Canon EOS EF 18-15mm f 3.5-5.6
Canon EOS EF 75-300mm f 4-5.6 USM III

Videocam
Canon ZR300 22x optical zoom

Media
2 SanDisk 1G CF cards
3 Sony mini DV tapes

bits and pieces
3 Canon NB-2LH batteries
(both DSLR and video use the same battery)
1 Canon battery charger

Still to come will be some sort of storage for still pix, looking right now at a Vosonic X-drive VP6230. No US retailer seems to carry Vosonic products, but they're available from US online sites. Looks a far better option than the CoolWalker. Plus a simple point and shoot camera for wide shots, so I can keep the 75-300mm on the 350D and not have to worry about changing lenses.

Also will need more videotapes, car battery charger or better yet, one that can be used on mains or car (multicharger that works for a variety of batteries prefered if I can find one) and that is multivoltage (which I so far can't find in the US). Ditto for a power outlet strip, since I know KNP chalets don't have more than one or two outlets, but again, multivoltage power strips don't appear to exist in the USA. Can anyone recommend a good electronics shop in Cape Town??

Mucho thanks to all those forum members whose input has helped me to make these selections. I used both cameras last weekend at a wildlife reserve in Texas and am really pleased with them both !! It was great to have a chance for a pre-KNP "test run" with (moderately) wild animals :D Saw lots of sable, some cheetah, and a black rhino  Plus plenty more usual game.

Ok, I already got quite a few Cameras  .

I have started with a

Canon AE 1
I bought that one as a used Camera around 1988.

Lenses: Canon Zoom Lens FD 75-200 mm/ 1:4,5
Canon Zoom Lens FD 35-70 mm /1: 3,5-4,5
Canon Lens FD 28 mm/ 1:2.8
Canon Lens FD 50 mm/ 1:1,4 S.S.C.
Canon Speedlite 155A

Still got that one and still love it very much , as it was my first SLR Camera.
But travelling to Namibia and starting with Wildlife photography made me think that the Camera was not the right Camera anymore.

So I bought ( after our Namibia holiday November 2002) a :

Minolta Dynax 5

Lenses: Minolta AF Zoom A 28-80 mm / 3,5-5,6 D
Minolta AF Zoom A 75-300 MM / 4,5-5,6 D
( I just sold that one a couple of months ago)

Quite shortly after that I had a :

Nikon F 80 , a very nice and well build Camera.

Lenses: Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80 mm/ 1:3,3-5,6 G
Nikon Af Nikkor 70-300 mm/ 1: 4-5,6 G

After discovering that I just did use toooooo many films :cam: I switched ( very recent) to the :

Nikon D 70 DSLR which is quite similar to the F80.

I use it with the same lenses as the F80.I still travel with the F 80 because I just do not feel very confortable while travelling with just one camera ( and at the moment I cannot afford a second DSLR Body :( ).(One of my AE 1 bodies just broke down on a perfect day on 90 mile Beach in New Zealand   ).
I am still surprised about the results I got with the new DSLR.
I have got two 2 GB Compact Flash Cards and use a Vosonic
X-drive Pro 3310 80 GB ,as backup during my travels.
I am using a Vanguard VT-432 Tripod and just made a Beanbag for Kruger….
Moreover I always carry my Steiner Safari Binoculars 10x 26.
The last two Cameras are the ones I travel with.I already used them during our holidays in Namibia , Botswana and Zimbabwe November 2004 and in South Africa May 2005.
You can see the results on my flickr page ( the pics of May 2005 will come shortly, Addo already arrived, also see forum sightings and Public Picture Gallery)

I hope this will be of use .
So enjoy wildlife and Photography.

Updating my kit:
As I said before I am now owning a:
Nikon D70s (my so is now using the D70)with a
AF -S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-70 mm f/ 3,5- 4,5 G IF ED.
My SO is using the Nikon D 70.
Still using the Nikon Af Nikkor 70-300 mm/ 1: 4-5,6 G
And finally my new Sigma DG 5.0-6.3 / 170-500 mm Nikon AF arrived during our holidays in Kruger, so now I am just waiting for the right occasion to test the new '' toy''.
