Macho Mouse's Skukuza Marathon : Aug 2006

Unread postby Vonnie » Fri Aug 04, 2006 8:21 pm

Hi all!!!

Had an SMS from MM at about 7:30 this evening. She writes: "I am here at last. Had animal crisis before I left home so I am here late. It is really cold"

Here is Hazyview. The marathon is tomorrow. She is very brave doing this marathon in this weather.

Will keep you all posted on her SMS's.

Just spoke to MM, she says she was siting at Lake Panic enjoying the silence when suddenly all hell broke loose, they thought it was ellie but it was about 30 hippo charging back to the water, something must have frightened them
Sounds like she is having a great trip :D

Had a call from MM. She is in Pretoriuskop tonight. She had a lovely day. No earthshattering sightings: the normal, monkeys, impies, baboons & nice birds.

While on the phone with her, there was an owl right outside her hut. I could hear it on the phone. I am soooooo jealous!

She is still on about the stampeding hippo's. Must have been truly spectacular with the noise and all the splashing

Wow! She seems to have had a bumper day today!!! New SMS reads as follows:

"Sightings today: Fish Eagle, baboons, monkeys, giraffe, kudu, nyala, cheetah, mongoose, bushbaby & steenbokkies. Had an hillarious experience of how not to pitch a tent! I think I have chased Mr Fox away forever!"

OK, now even with me  Who is the fictional character in this saga - Nyala or Mr Fox??

Lengthy SMS from MM:

"Sightings today: Lion, fish eagle, zebra, waterbuck, duiker, steenbok, blue wildebeest, buffalo, monkeys, baboons, hippo, dead mole snake, giraffe, lovely family of ellies. And the sighting of all sightings: Three little klipspringer a few metres from my car. They stood with their dainty little high heel shoes watching me for about 10 minutes. Sunset at Mathekenyane. Meeting my first yellow ribbon, Dirk"

That was quite a mouthful! Great sightings!! I wonder what killed the snake?

I wonder if MM remembered to take her yellow ribbon? :hmz:

Bert, you were complaining about the few trip reports. Here, let me put you out of your misery! Message just received from Macho Mouse:

"Have just watched the most beautiful sunset from Tambotie!Today I saw croc's, many hippo's, dwarf mongoose, ground hornbill, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, wildebeest, baboons, monkeys. Wtched zebra drinking at the cam. Highlight of the day: 1. Agroup of six young kudu playing for about half an hour in front of my tent. 2. A group of ellies in deep communication using their trunks. I saw 2 yellow ribbons: Tsukudu & Bushcamp!""

This is not fair!! I was meant to be there and commitments at work prevented me going

I said to MM that it sounds like that had a great time last night....her reply (with her permission):

Yes but today I am a bit delicate. I forgot the bungalow number and spent most of the night wandering.

Thank you guys for all your well wishes :D :D
8) 8) 8) 8)
much appreciation..... and as I learned on the B and B meet... not only appreciation... much more than that.. we have become family.
That was before I lost my way in the camp
non the less.. I do believe there was a speech about the forum being family.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.
