Afternoon fellow forumites!

Enter Phabeni gate this morning at 6, Waited in queue for 30min before eventually getting into park. Rhino couple of km down the road follwed by some buffalo. Roads very busy due to Skukuza Marathon. Plenty of general game, big herds of kudu and waterbuck. Park is dry but most dams/rivers still have a fair amount of water in them. Saw some Ellies by Tshokwane and also closer to Satara, more buffalo as well. Birds are very quiet, saw a couple of Vultures and a Brown snake eagle. Missed 4 Cheetah close to Tshokwane by 2min apparently..
Zebra, Wildebees and plenty giraffe close to Satara.
Jus booked in and settled down, Satara looking nice with the new resturant, even getting a new entrance gate soon as well. Enjoying the new camera.
Time for a quick nap and then off out again this afternoon.

Will give an update later tonight.

Evening all.

This afternoon's drive was very quiet besides the odd impala and zebra until about 10km north of Satara, pride of lions. 13 Adults and 8 cubs, including 2 big males. Missed the cubs crossing the road, got video footage on them scratching up against a tree, but got some photo's of young lions crossing the road as well as the two big males. Sat with them for over an hour. It was one of my best lion sightings to date.
Scops owl in camp, and lion and hyaena in the background.

See you all tomorrow.

Afternoon

Lion roaring right through the night last night.

This morning was up early and decided to defeat the odds on the S100 again. Eventually came across some impala and zebra. About half way down the S100, we came across 5 small lion cubs playing in the road, we sat with them for about 40min before moving on. They were playing in and out of the road ignoring the cars, climbing up tree stumps and playing and tackling each other. No mommy around, that was the strange thing. The rest of the S100 we saw giraffe and zebra. Close to Nwanetsi we saw a lone hyaena. Buffalo close to Satara and lone Ellie by Timbavati, 2 rhino on the main road but far in the distance. Had a lovely breakfast at Timbavati.
Hippo's out of the water at Nsemani dam. I am suprised by the amount of Kudu we are seeing, they are everywhere and in large groups aswell, one never used to see this a couple of years back.

Going to have a bit of a rest before we go out again.
Will update again later tonight!

Good evening all.

This afternoon was a very relaxed drive, did the S126, saw some ellies in the riverbed. Some more Ellies at the end of the road. A herd of about 16 giraffe, zebra, warthog and wildebees. Sat at Nsemani dam for a while admiring the sounds of the bush with the hippos grunting.
Some buffalo close to Satara in the dark.
At camp around the fire listening to the scops again..

Heading up towards Balule tomorrow, interesting sightings up north. All the sightings at Satara at the moment are north and to the east. Timbavati area also good with sightings. This is jus taking a look at the sightings board. So dont know how true it is but it has been for us.

Will update again tomorrow.

Morning guys.

What a morning we had. Headed up north to Balule, about 4km north of Satara, a couple of ellies, about 8km a big male lion lying right next to the road, moaning and groaning, it was all lovely until he got up to walk, he was badly injured and struggled to walk, was limping very badly. Not a nice sight, so we decided to move on. About 10km we got to see a big male leopard (on the ground) walking away from us, it was about 150 - 200m away. It sat staring at us for a while before running of into the bush. Unfortunately too far for photo's, at about 15km we saw a huge herd of buffalo far in the distance. So by 7 this morning we had see 4 of the big five. Great start. Plenty of giraffe and zebra along the way, More lion on the dam wall of Ngotso. Hyaena den with giraffe's legs lying around.
Once again plenty of Kudu around, saw about 5 groups of 4-8 bachelor males. More ellies on the way back to Satara coming down the S90, also got to see a Kori bustard nice and close as well as 2 secretary birds. Saw a couple of Vultures and not too sure but think it was a African Hawk? More ellies later on and wildebees with giraffe at the waterhole. While busy looking at some young kudu females a serval jumped up and ran across the road so quickly and disappeared into the bush before I could take a picture.

Back at camp, had a lovely brunch and gonna have a nap again before going out this afternoon.

See you all later.

Greetings from the bush.

This afternoon we headed up and did the S90 coming round and ending on the S100 again. We are been naughty thinking the S100 is going to produce again. But we were wrong again.
On the S90 we saw a couple of blue wildebees and zebra, at the intersection there was a few giraffe and later on a herd of ellies. No fish eagle at Gudzani. Onto the S100 this time lion cubs with mother but lying down in the bush about 70m away. Kudu further on down in the river bed with a few zebra.
Later down the S100 saw another ellie and right at the end we saw a couple of buffalo in the dark.

Heading out towards Timbavati tomorrow, along the Orpen road. Weather has been extremely good to us. A bit nippy in the morning and late evenings but during the day it is nice.

Update again tomorrow morning.

Morning..

From such an eventful couple of days to a very quiet one. This morning headed towards Orpen and then did the S39, very quiet all the way. Impala, ostriches and zebra were mostly seen. We came across quite a nice breeding herd of Ellies with a few small babies on the S39. Giraffe close to Timbavati and then nothing else besides a few birds. Brown Hooded Kingisher, Lilac Breasted Roller, and a couple of Vultures in the distance.
Just sitting around camp now, going to take a few photo's of some birds and then off to have breakfast.

One thing I noticed have not seen baboons yet????

See you all later.

Evening all...

This afternoon was a quiet drive again. Saw a couple of ellies, some more buffalo on the other side of the river. Fish Eagle. Plenty of giraffe, impala and zebra with the odd wildebees. Saw some ground hornbills. Oh and our first troop of baboons.
Getting quite hot during the day, the animals are taking shelter underneath trees from about 11am.

Leaving Satara early tomorrow morning and heading down south and will be leaving through Phabeni gate.

Will update again tomorrow

Hi Guys

Very sad to have left Kruger.......

This morning we had 3 male lions about 4km south of Satara, busy marking their territory. Buffalo and waterbuck a few km further down. All very quiet until we got to Tshokwane where we started to see things again. Ellies and warthog. Plenty of impala and a couple of Giraffe. Sabie river still running very nicely. Some more buffalo on river. Vervet monkeys in road.
Ended off 2 rhino lying down about 100m into the bush by Phabeni gate.

All in was a very nice trip, highlight was definately the lion cubs. Weather was great. First time I have been in August and am sure to return in August again....
Really enjoyed the new camera...

Will post pics once I have sorted them out hopefully later this week..

See you later.
