Brave_crazy KNP Trip : 1-7 May 2006

Unread postby brave_crazy » Fri May 19, 2006 5:24 pm

Entered at Phalaborwa Gate on the 1st May06, made the long drive to Shingwedzi for 2nights x Bungalow on fence right by 2nd gate. It was very quiet and peaceful, just the way I like it.

From Shigwedzi it was down to Letaba for 2nights x bungalow.Slightly louder than Shingwedzi(more people), including a group who managed to pull down a branch from a massive tree, and then proceeded to look for the "leopard" the rest of the night...lol..

Then onto Tamboti for a last 2 nights which was increased to 3 once I arrived and fell in love.Very secluded and private.Completely amazing to be able to be frying your breakfast while looking out onto a river bed with no-one else around.Paradise!!

I cannot wait to get back "home" to the KNP.

Here are a few of the better pics, nothing spectacular, but hey, here they are..

Thanx for report and pics! :D
Now I am even more looking forward to our stay there in November. 8)

What animal is it near the bird? (Could it be a Serval?)
Sorry I am not very good at identifying birds  (always mixing them up a bit), so could you please help me with that as well.

Hi Katy

At the time we thought it was a genet of sorts, but I am open to correction.

As for the eagle, I believe that it is a Tawny eagle, this was actually the second eagle on the scene, it has chased a Batteleur of the meal just moments before, but my pic of this did not come out that great.

Hi brave_Crazy

Look like you guys had n wonderful time.
The eagle is a Tawny.... you say it chased a bateleur a way. Both off these eagles are scavengers and can be that the Genet was killed by a anther animal( As being that close to the road i hope not it was a vehicle).

P.S. liked the pic
