Paulbright's Kruger visit : April 2006

Unread postby paulbright » Thu Apr 20, 2006 3:02 pm

I got so lucky this easter weekend at KrugerPark. Got to see plenty of beautiful wild life.
I stayed in Pretoriuskop and did most of the driving around Skukza, Pretoriuskop,Saltjie road and Biyamiti.

The highlights of the trip are

1. Pack of wild dogs playing in the middle of the road!
2. Martial Eagle
3. Bateleur Eagle
4. Lions, especially the three cubs watching traffic from a high reach den.
5. Malachite kingfisher
6. A seldom seen species of Crake.
7. Other unknown raptors
8. Saddle billed stork
9. Blue waxbill
10. Common waxbill
11. Pied king fisher
12. Feeding green backed heron chick
13. Nesting white fronted bee-eaters
14. Brown snake eagle

Thanks for sharing your amazing photos. I especially like the kingfishers and Green backed herons. Really awesome!

By the way, your second unidentified eagle is a juvenile Bateleur, (with neck feathers fluffed out )and the other looks like a juv. dark chanting goshawk. Awesome ,would love to see more.
