Somehow we had the feeling that the Lions might stay the whole day, and as it was getting more and more busy, we decided to leave....

A bit further south we found this young Springbok and his/ her Mum....

And another Kitty Cat...

A Jackal at Dalkeith....

Then we spotted a lone Lioness lying underneath a bush, we were hoping that she might have cubs, that she was hiding there...
So we stayed for a little while, but nothing.....

In the afternoon the lovebirds were still there....

But as it was again very busy, we left and drove south instead....
It was a quiet drive and so after visiting Dalkeith we turned around instead...
And... stopped to watch the mating pair ....

23.11.

Today we are moving from KK to Urikaruus.
As it wasn't a long drive, we left for an early morning drive before packing the car.

Just shortly after we reached the riverbed we spotted a movement on the ridge.
A Brown Hyena....
We just had a short glimpse and then she was gone.

Image
Larger View

Of course we visitited the Cape Fox Den again.
The little ones we out and playing...

Then they got tired and returned back to the den, time for us to leave....
we decided to drive up till Gemsbokplein before heading back to KK.
Shortly after passing Auchterlonie we spotted yet another Honey Badger disappearing over the ridge....

Image
Larger View

And shortly before reaching Gemsbokplein we found this...

Image
Larger View

Now we were wondering what we might have missed.... :hmz:
Well, at KK we packed our car, said farewell to Willem and decided to drive to Urikaruus via the Lower Dunes Road and Twee Rivieren, as it still was a bit to early to arrive at Uri.

The Dunes Road was quiet and it already was a pretty hot day.
We found a Hyena shortly after passing Rooiputs having a mudbath.

After a Toasted Sandwich and an ice cold Coke at the TR Take Away we were finally heading towards Urikaruus.
It was a hot and quiet drive and we were very happy when we finally arrived at the Camp.
Eric greeted us and we soon moved into #2.
In the afternoon we left for another drive south.
Heading back towards the camp later we found this Honey Badger at Montrose Waterhole.
Having a closer look he had two wounds on his back, maybe a fight with another Honey Badger?!

He then crossed the road walked up the hill and disappeared...

At 4am that morning we had visitors to the waterhole...

Then we left the camp and drove south....
Some cars we parked in the road near Montrose....
And someone told us, that there was a Leopard in one of the caves on the ridge....
Indeed, we discovered him/ her too

We switched off the engine and waited....
And ..... The Leopard left the cave and walked over to a different one...

Yay!
Matthew told us later that this was beautiful Miera 8)

We drove down till Gemsbokplein and then returned back to the camp.....
The Lions were gone and we enjoyed a relaxed and quiet day at Urikaruus.
Later that afternoon we left again for a drive and again in southern direction.
Our turning point was once again Montrose.
We slowly made our way back to the camp, when we saw a movement in the river bed.
Hyenas
Two youngsters were walking towards the waterhole, so we turned around and followed them...

Image
Larger View

The first one climbed into the water....

Image
Larger View

And was soon joined by the second one...

Image
Larger View

They were having so much fun and really seemed to enjoy a bath on a hot day....

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Then they discovered the float "ball" and pulled as hard as they could....

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Then something else caught their attention.....

Image
Larger View

We had a look too.....
More Hyenas, the two left the waterhole and ran off to greet the others....

Image
Larger View

A third youngster had a nasty looking wound on one of the hind legs.... :(
But could walk with it very well.

Image
Larger View

Then they altogether returned back to the adults and disappeared again....

Image
Larger View

Maybe they had been disobedient and ran away to have a bath and now Mum was having a word with them.... :naughty:

It was time for us to leave as well, we did not want to come to the camp too late.
we stopped at the Cape Fox den south of Urikaruus again and were lucky that a youngster was outside...

But, now it was really time to go.....
Still remember how our day started ?! :hmz:
Well.....

We arrived back at the camp only to discover that the Lions were back, all of them including the cubs....
Rats! We missed them..... :wall:

But on the other hand we would have never wanted to miss out on the Hyena and Cape Fox sighting....

The Lions settled down for the night....
Later the other Lionesses, that we had seen early in the morning, arrived.
Cautiosly they came closer to the waterhole.
The other Lions were on the far side of the waterhole and slowly the ladies came closer for a drink, all of them keeping a close eye on the Lions pride....

26.11.

Today was my Grannies birthday, so we had to drive down to Twee Rivieren for a phone call.
Springboks were the early morning visitors at the waterhole, still a bit wary after yesterdays visit of the Lions.

Image
Larger View

Of course on the way south we stopped at the Cape Fox den close to Uri

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

We left them, only to discover another Cape Fox in the riverbed, only a couple of kilometres away....

Image
Larger View

Before reaching Rooibrak we spotted two Bat-eared Foxes far away

Image
Larger View

And near Gemsbokplein we had a surprise.... A Hadeda Ibis!

Image
Larger View

More smaller sightings along the way...

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Meerkats near TR

Image
Larger View

And some not that small sightings...

Image
Larger View

Then we discovered this near Kamqua.....
Either we had been blind on the way south, or it has not been there when we passed....

Image
Larger View

It already had been a long day, so we just went for a short drive in the afternoon...

Near Rooibrak again, a Hyena

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

A lone Thicknee

Image
Larger View

Suddenly we heard a buzzing near the car and were surprised to find a "pile" of Bees, we had never seen that many in such a small space....

Image
Larger View

It was time to return back to the camp....
Of course we stopped at the den again ;-)

Image
Larger View

Later that evening we had a small visitor in the kitchen that was hiding underneath the gas stove....

Image
Larger View

We were a bit heavy hearted that evening, as it was our last one before heading towards Twee Rivieren for our last couple of nights.....

27.11.

Today we are moving to TR for our last couple of nights....
But, of course I could not resist to go on another drive before we left.

I was slowly approaching Rooibrak when I spotted two Hyenas in the middle of the riverbed.
One was carrying a take away breakfast

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

A little one joined them and I followed them for about 2 km's

Image
Larger View

Image

Then they disappeared into the direction of a den, you could clearly hear how excited the others were when the Hyena arrived with her "gift"

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Image
Larger View

Then we watched the Sandgrouses arrive at the Urikaruus waterhole

Image
Larger View

We sadly said goodbye to Urikaruus and left for Twee Rivieren.....

To be continued
