Time was very busy but now I'm glad to be back to this wonderful forum.
Next weekend we start for our South African summer holidays :D
and there are still some spring time pictures of our last visit to Karoo National Park I want to share with you.

Karoo National Park

I like Karoo National Park very much, already had two wonderful stays there.
In September 2011 we had the first visit with the new fences,
first time in the park with the reintroduced lions.
We stayed at #23 and I was surprised that there was not that much to see of the fence from the veranda.
I was glad there were still those lovely views without any harm caused by the presence of a fence.

We arrive at noon and are happy we can get our chalet #23 and unpack the car.
Soon we are on Klipspringerpas on the way to the mountains.
I love these breathtaking views :)

At the viewpoint we see a red locust. It looks a bit dangerous with the red colour.

Image

Wonderful view from the viewpoint, but no raptors in the air today.

Image

Not far away from the viewpoint we see elands enjoying the spring vegetation.
I didn't expect to see flowers in the Karoo, but there sure had been a lot of rain the weeks before.

The first time we see elands in the Karoo National Park.

We come along a far away kudu and it is very quiet until we see this chap watching the area,
baboons in the mountains.

Image

The tarred road ends and gets worse more and more towards Doornhoek Picnic Area.
I hit a bigger stone on the road and hear SO say "You are going to change the tyre, you are the driver ...!" :naughty:
Fortunately there are no tyre problems this afternoon and I am very alert not to hit more of those bad luck bringing stones.

There are not that many animals on our way.
We see a herd of oryx antelopes ...

... and some mountain zebras arriving.

Thank you for all your kind comments. :)

It was wonderful to watch the gemsboks and the zebras in this spacious area.
The baboon was sure the chief of a big family.

As in the beginning of our spring holidays we had this peace of metal

in the tyre at the passenger's side

you can image how glad I was that there was no additonal problem with the tyres.

Close to the camp we see kudus in the afternoon sun.

Back at the chalet we decide to take a shower and stay at the veranda.
After a very delicious dinner it is again time for the veranda,
we enjoy the Karoo sky with stunning stars.
This night the stars are so bright .. not easy to detect the Southern Cross.

After breakfast we take the route along Lammertjiesleegte and Bulkraal.
We see a red hartebeest scratching the soil.

Suddenly there are zebras on the road.

In the afternoon we are off to the mountains again at Klipspringerpas.
There are no elands any more. Today there are zebras and a herd of red hartebeests.
The zebras are not easy to detect.

Most of the hartebeests look to the left ...

At the other side of the road we find this ostrich.

Today we don't drive the loop to Doornhoek, we stay on the tarred road and drive the same way back.
No baboons today, but a marvelous view.

This evening it is very stormy, even during the night the storm didn't end.

Next morning after breakfast it is time to leave.
There is always a red hartebeest on the way to the gate
waving "Good Bye" ...

Image

"Good Bye! Until next time!"
