Tanx for the comments and encouragement gang. We will now continue.

22nd December 2103 our last day up Northwards.

Nothing was planned for the day trip wise and we let the car do the thinking and take us where it wished.

Well the flash on my camera was really working well as I got this Wilma and her baby.

Image

about 5 minutes before we got this.

Image
513 by Russelg, on Flickr

We ventured on towards Timbavati Picnic Spot and before we made our breakfast these delightful critters made an appearance.

Image
515 by Russelg, on Flickr

Image
529 by Russelg, on Flickr

and whilst eating the said breakfast we were entertained by these.

The Lady Bushbuck was more interested in her natural diet than the free take away that is so often left for them.

As it was a rather late and relaxed breakfast we decided to head back to camp via the S40 take in Girivaana and Nsemani Dam and head for camp.

These flowers what ever they may be seem to be quite prolific in this area and also pop up sporadically throughout the park.

Image
531 by Russelg, on Flickr

At Girivana this beautiful Fish Eagle would not allow me to get a good picture,

Image
540 by Russelg, on Flickr

As he might have been eyeing out one of these for a quick snack.

Image
544 by Russelg, on Flickr

and can you believe as I was concentrating on Walter and Watilda he flew off and denied me any further pics

Image
545 by Russelg, on Flickr

Further on this European Roller was making short work of his morning tea,

Image
536 by Russelg, on Flickr

Image
538 by Russelg, on Flickr

Image
539 by Russelg, on Flickr

When we got to Nsemani Dam this Ellie was making rather a nuisance of himself squirting anything from ducks to hippo`s that came to close. He also looked as though he wanted to alter the contours of the bank.
He would squirt water onto the ground in front of him and then stand on the wet soil.

Image

Image
564 by Russelg, on Flickr

Well it was off back to camp to escape the heat with a quick pic of a Kori

Image
568 by Russelg, on Flickr

who was also panting from the heat of the day.

The afternoon plan was to do the DULL S100, S41 down the S90 and onto the H1-4 back to camp.

I think this was our best afternoon so far.

TBC

I will be back.

ENJOY

Sorry Folks, think I`ve kept you hanging in there long enough, so lets continue.

Well as I said the DULL S100 turned out to be just that ( there is no bad road in the Park but its right time right place which never happened for us this December on the S100).

So it was onto the S41 with great hopes of seeing more of these.

It was not to be but we did get this Southern Carmine Bee eater feeding its young.

This furry little chap who hung in for a quick snap.

Image

And then my first ever picture of a Brown headed Parrot.

Image
126 by Russelg, on Flickr

We turned onto the S90 for our last time as we were leaving for Lower Sabie the following morning and noticed the little Red backed Shrike (I think) staring intently at a clump of bushes.

Image
572 by Russelg, on Flickr

I followed his stare and Eureka we found them.

We spent a good 40 minutes with them and whilst we were there one of those noisy type open plan vehicles arrived with a bunch of very loud tourists. The King was not impressed and let out a mighty roar which almost shattered my windscreen as he was only about 10 meters into the bush.
It worked as the noisy vehicle was immediately silenced and everybody could get on with enjoying this magnificent couple.
It was now approaching 6pm and we still had about 13kms to do so we said goodbye to the lovers and thanked our lucky stars for these CATS as we have already been in the Park for 5 days and these were only our 4th lions.

We arrived back at camp with not much else to report and I don`t remember what was for supper but I`m sure that if you are reading Heksies report she will let you know.

TBC

I will be back as I need to finish this report as I will be back in the Park this time in three weeks.

ENJOY.

Well the car was topped up with diesel the previous evening as we were leaving for Lower Sabie today.
we had a bit of a wee sleep in until 5am broke camp packed the car and off we went.

We hadn`t gone very far when this rustig Old Man came to say goodbye and safe travels and warned us of something rather magnificent further up the road.

Image
593 by Russelg, on Flickr

and then a bit further up the road this is what he was talking about.

Image
594 by Russelg, on Flickr

Image
595 by Russelg, on Flickr

Image
596 by Russelg, on Flickr

Pity that all the pics of these magnificants on this particular day were taken through the windscreen due to the fact that it was raining and also that the caravan was in tow. Is it not funny that many a good sighting can be hindered by the travelling accommodation.

Well we arrived at Lower Sabie without much more than general game, set up camp and took a stroll to the deck.

Bird Bath.

Image

Then at the sightings board

Image

Image

Image
611 by Russelg, on Flickr

It was quite amazing watching them feed their young as they new exactly which chick had been fed before so that the babies got their equal portions. They were also nonplussed with all the people around.

Well it was onto the deck proper and this fella was enjoying himself whilst we drank our Drafts of the cold kind.

Tanx for all the comments gang greatly appreciated. It makes me really happy to share my moments in the Park with you.

Well lunch was sorted and off we went onto the S28 and onto Ntandanyathi Hide.

Firstly we had this fellow who kept us stationary for a while.

Image
638 by Russelg, on Flickr

Once at the hide we got some great shots of the locals.

Please take note of the location of the Water Monitor and the Terrapin as I have some more shots of this hide a couple of days later.

Just outside the hide this African Grey Hornbill posed so nicely for a camera shoot.

Image
655 by Russelg, on Flickr

We left and went on our merry way towards Duke`s Water hole with quite a bit of general game and plenty Zebbies.

Once at the water hole it seemed that Buffalo College were having some sort of gala or swimming lessons as you will see.

Image

It was almost like the sardine run in KZN.

Back onto the H4-2 and another first for us. A Rhino using it`s Miden. Sorry Heksie but he obliterated all your poorooms.

Image
662 by Russelg, on Flickr

Just before the Sausage Tree another road block but it didn`t bother us as there were so many little uns.

Image
668 by Russelg, on Flickr

Back to camp and seeing that it was Christmas Eve the fairy lights were lit a scrumptious braai of lazy age rump sweet potatoes gem squash with peas inside was devoured by 3 starving growing boys and then to the deck for a couple or 4 cold ones.

TBC

I will be back.

ENJOY

Well its now Christmas day and seeing that Heksie and Wendy were joining us for a Christmas Lunch Roast we decided that a short drive up the S29, S 122 down back the S29 breakfast at Mlondozi and back to camp to start the roast.

We set off early being the first car out after our coffee and rusks at the gate wished the guard a Happy Christmas crossed over the low level bridge and turned right onto the S29. It was still rather dark and missed a photo shot of an African Wild Cat who was right next to the road but once the camera was positioned for the shot it just got up walked behind a little bush and was gone.

About 2.5kms further on this chappie was grazing quite peacefully alongside the road.

Image
672 by Russelg, on Flickr

But as we got closer he turned onto the road and proceeded to walk slap bang in the middle for the next 35 to 40 minutes at a sedate pace of about 2kms per hour or at 35 litres per 100kms as the cars computer recorded.

Image
673 by Russelg, on Flickr

He eventually turned off with a little bit of persuasion from another Ellie and we were able to pass and turned onto the S122. It was now about 7.30am and not even 1 Impala had put in an appearance, however we found this Franko giving both Lyns a mouthful.

Image
681 by Russelg, on Flickr

Just before the H10 this solitary fellow came towards us on a mission.

Image
683 by Russelg, on Flickr

It was back down the H 10 and onto the S29 heading for Mlondozi for breakfast but were once again stopped by another

Image
694 by Russelg, on Flickr

Who was eventually chased off by these ballerinas

Image
695 by Russelg, on Flickr

Once the Ellie was gone we were informed by the approaching car that they had been there for a half hour with the Ellie leaving the road but as soon as they moved it would come back into the road and just stand there.

We moved onto Mlondozi cooked some breakfast and got some more pics which I will post a bit later.

TBC

I will be back

Enjoy.

Tanx for the comments and for being on the bus gang it keeps one awake and on your toes.

Whilst eating our break fast we had a bit of an altercation between a Hippo and yet another Ellie.

This poor hippo was just minding it`s own business having a late breakfast

Image
700 by Russelg, on Flickr

When this bully who had come down the other side of the dam walked around and chased her back into the water and then sauntered off

Image
704 by Russelg, on Flickr

We packed up and set off for camp as the roast still had to be put in as Heksie and Wendy were joining us for lunch.
Our next offering from Mother Nature were these two magnificent creatures.

Image
716 by Russelg, on Flickr

And this little fellow who reminded us that we had better get going or the Christmas Lunch would never get cooked.

Image
718 by Russelg, on Flickr

Just before camp we invited this European to join us for dinner but he declined rather graciously.

Image
723 by Russelg, on Flickr.

Well the roast was done with its trimmings and Wendy and Heksie arrived and a rather pleasant Christmas Lunch with a bit of liquid was enjoyed by all.

TBC

I will be back.

Enjoy.

Right Gang I`m back.
After lunch was consumed we went out and turned right towards Croc Bridge and were told that there were dogs on the S130, so guess what. Yeah you guessed it we set off for the S130 and were awarded with these magnificent creatures as a late Christmas present.

Image
769 by Russelg, on Flickr

But in between looking at the dogs we got this Giant Eagle Owl which I insisted that Ross take a picture whilst the train of cars behind us had to wait. Some others also stopped for a picture or two.
Image
771 by Russelg, on Flickr

But some more dogs.

Image
773 by Russelg, on Flickr

Image
778 by Russelg, on Flickr

They eventually all got up and I think got into hunting mode but unfortunately went off into the bush and disappeared

Image
780 by Russelg, on Flickr

Well the sun was about to go down and we headed back to camp a rather happy bunch of Christmas camping buddies.

TBC

Enjoy.

Tanx again for following and all the comments. Yeah that little Terra had me in stiches as well.

and promptly walked towards us without a care in the world.

Number 3 in the BIG FIVE category for the day. Mud what glorious mud.

Two to go we thought quietly to ourselves then whamo no 4 in the BIG FIVE appeared, but very far away.

Image

If you look to the right of the picture you can see the leg of his lady. She never did show herself completely tho.

Well it was off back to camp with general sightings and all were happy with our accomplishments for the day when suddenly another road block with cars this time and a kind young lady pointed out this LIT to us.

What a TREAT the complete BIG FIVE in one day. Were we happy? I think so.
