PetraJ, what wonderful sightings. I hope you got your truck when expected. Sounds like you needed it with the rain.

Petra, quite late on board, but I enjoyed your commentary and explanations, with many a sweet chuckle, and have absorbed those lovely pics. Will ride the train more slowly now ... :D

Hallo everyone, back at work today, after 5 weeks away. Halfway into our holiday, the laptop decided it had enough, and unfortunately I couldn't post further. SOOOOOOO, a lot of catching up to do now. We had a wonderful time, and worked really hard, but enjoyed it a lot. Met a lot of wonderful people and made some great friends. Thanks for following my TR up to now, will start posting the next day soon.

15 December
We took a very short drive to see if we could find the lions that woke us up next to the fence this morning at half past three. Found them just passed the Orpen road turn off, but there were so many cars following them, we turned around and went down the Orpen road to see if the Wild dog was still there. No luck there either. Returned to camp, and got a call from the camp manager requesting us to drive to Roodewal to receive some guests there, the first after the kitchen burned down. At Roodewal, we helped the staff getting the camp in order and then the long wait started…. It was very hot …. They finally arrived only at 16h30, and we were only able to leave the camp at half past five. Reached Satara at about 19h00.

16 December.
We were still tired after yesterday’s heat and decided to sleep in. Went to the office at 8 to report back on yesterday’s Roodewal duties, and were asked to drive out to Nwanetsi again today. Took the S100 and found some lions there.

At about 21h00 we heard a sound at the fence and were very surprised to find a Rhino about 5 meters in. He was very relaxed and slept there the night. He woke us at his departure round about 3h00.

17 December.
Went to Timbavati today. Saw a cute baby Blue Wildebeest and a lioness whose cubs are still in hiding.

The camp are getting very busy now so our drives are getting shorter. Late afternoon a herd of elephant came past the campsite and drank at the waterhole in front of the guest house.

PetraJ, back to reality again, I guess. :|

You really worked hard and really admired you for the work you have been doing as well as the challenges you encountered (esp the pool issue)

You had some great sightings and most enjoyable to read about your experiences and the pics that go with it.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

Remember the one late afternoon you came past us telling us about the WDs? Well as we arrived at the bridge just past Rabeleis, only a few were sleeping far away in the river bed. The visibility with all the cars around was poor, se we decided to go to Orpen gate and took a few pics of the wildebeest with their young and returned via Rabeleis - but no cheetah spotted. We went back to where we saw the WD's, and the timing was spot on as they started to get active and moved to the road, I decided to drive further down the road and turned around when they suddenly came out with all the cars following them. I was in front of the WD with great view from the front as I reversed while they were approaching managed to get some great pics - all 28 of them. They then went across the road and disappeared into the bushes.

Now the sad story, back home my external hard drive started to give problems before I could make another copy of the pics. Now I am waiting to hear from some experts if they could successfully do some data recovery. So, I know the feeling of your laptop packing up. :hmz:

Thank you once again, and it was really lovely to have met you at Satara. :D
