At 2:30 pm we arrived at Urikaruus. At first, I was disappointed that unit 3 was allocated to us as I have read that this ist he worst unit. But having seen it, I disagree. It has a much better view than no 4.

After we had moved in, we went on an afternoon drive to 14th borehole

We saw many newborn springboks and a group of 26 giraffes

Image

Image

Unfortunately it was not possible to get them all in the pic.

On the access road to the camp a hyena was enjoying the evening

Image

Maybe it was the same that came to the waterhole 3 hours later.

While we were still braaing, the power went off. Thus, we enjoyed our first meal with candle- and firelight.

At about 9pm I saw a shadow and turned on the flashlight. A huge male leopard was passing by and disappeared between units 1 and 2. We heard him coughing in the parking lot but when we got there we only saw Charlie Fax disappearing quickly into her den. The leopard had gone behind the camp attendants unit already. There was not even time to grab the camera but we think it must have been Dakotah.

That night the temperatures got down to -3,5 degrees and we nearly froze to death in our beds.

Wow, that is a cold, cold night.

I really enjoy it when I see pictures of the accommodation. Thank you very much.

Lovely view of the young Cheetah... and certainly an eventful evening.

it was amazing to see the giraffes, Hilda.

at first we spotted only a few but then we realised that there were many more among the trees and bushes.

It was very cold, MM.

We woke up a couple of times when we tried to turn in bed and the sheets were icecold.

It seems there were many cheetahs around this year, Pumbaa.

The leopard definitely was the highlight. It was just a pity that he did not stay. :(

Thank you for joining, lion queen. :gflower:

Where did you see the giraffes? They seem to be moving between 14th and Dalkeith.

This is so true, wanderw.

initially we did not get a single night at Urikaruus for next year. By now we could grab one night but we are still hoping to stay longer.

This morning I tried to download some pics from the trapcam which caused some problems. Thus we left for the morning drive only at 8 am. We drove down to Auchterlonie.

Our first sighting were some willies and springboks.

At Rooibrak two lanner falcons had caught a dove and were busy getting rid oft he feathers
