We had a wonderful 4 nights camping at Marakele. What I love about Bontle Camp is that although it was fully booked, it never felt crowded. Although we arrived late on Friday afternoon, we still found a lovely shady spot in the section overlooking the waterhole and saw impala, kudu, wildebeest, warthog, vervet monkeys, zebra, the ever present ostriches and even white rhino sitting in front of our caravan! The definite highlight was the 5 rhinos grazing just outside the camp perimeter (remember - no fence) on Monday night!!
The park is very wet at the moment. On Friday evening there was a tremendous thunderstorm and it rained through the night. Most of the roads were not accessible by normal sedan motor. We, however, had loads of fun in our land-cruiser - still trying to get rid of all the mud! And for those who maybe thought the 4x4 trail are to "tame" - go and try it after all the rain the Park had!!
Camping at Marakele is always a treat - the stars at night are just amazing! I would recommend it to everyone that loves the bush.
