I left the gate at open time and drove down the S100 and back on the way back there were some lions near the road but no pics possible. Went back to camp and picked up my SO. Down the s100 again and the up to Gudzani.
This was the morning of the jackals we saw jackals 5 times
Here is one of the side striped pups that posed for us
Image

And a blackbacked jackal a bit further down the road
Image

We then drove to Tinbivati for breakfast and back to Satara It was extremely quiet
Girvana no cars , Nsemani no cars to give you an idea.
The afternoon we drove down the S100 again
Found a nice Fish Eagle on on side of the road and another eagle on the other side. (This one will wait for the duckling challenge)

Image

Then apparently more than 10 lions in the grass. We saw the top of one males head. Waited 40 odd minutes drove down the s100 for a couple of km , turned back and of cause the lions started the move when we were away. We saw 2 lions walking in the bush.

On the way back in the same tree as before a Bateleur
Image

The sun set on a lovely afternoon

1 April

Today I left the camp early again. The gate was supposed to open at 6am from today but it opened earlier.
On the S100 I just missed 14 Lions in the road but at least so a lot of them walking off into the bush. 2 Large males in the pride. Still to early to take pics. Carried on and on antother road
Image
3 of them . Further on some Ellies and then a large herd of Buffalo (100's) It looked as if 2 herds joined and there was quite a bit of fighting etc.
Image
But we had other plans today
Image

Yes we travelled Mananga today. The bush is very thick and there are lots of water. The waterhole in the middle now also has water. This is a nice improvement.

Image

Image
Image
On the way back to camp our first Secretarybird
Image

On the afternoon drive some Ellies at the waterhole
Image
A youngster trying his luck
Image
And on the way home 3 lions on the H1-4
Image

So Lions to start and end the day.

Thanks for travelling with me.
Thanks for all the compliments

Today it is really cloudy and turning cold. I once again left early, Drove down to Tshokwane and then the tar road to Nwanetsi. On this road the Hyena den never lets you down. One of the youngsters.

It started raining softly but we saw the Guinea fowls with chicks

4 April - Morning
We left camp at about 5:45. The gates are supposed to open at 6am but the gaurd at the gate still opens it at 5:30 am. Very few people realize this. That means if you go early there aren't any queues at the gate.
We drove up the H1-4. there was puddles of water all over and it was very wet. Very little movement this morning. The next moment my SO said stop and he was waiting for us
Image
Unfortunately he did what all leopards do . Hid in the grass and then walked off
Image

Image

Fortunately we had time to take pics. It felt as if we were in KNP all by ourselves. We had one vehicle(looked like anti poaching vehicle) drove past us and 1 vehicle from the front(Parks board bakkie) from Satara to the Ngotsodam. From there to the s39 - 4 vehicles at a hyena den. Down the s39 we drove pass one vehicle all the way to Timbivati picnic spot. On the way
Image

And close to Ratelpan
Image
and "docking" hippos
Image
After breakfast we carried on down the S39
Image
After this it started raining again and we drove back to camp.
From 36 degrees Celcius on Tuesday afternoon to wet and cold today.
It looks as if the weathers is starting to improve.

This was the moring of there was.......
I was at the gate a 5:15 am and they decided it was time to open the gate a 6 am. Needless to say I was the first car on the S100 very quiet this morning. Turned North towards the S90. Someone stopped me and told me there was a gorgeous Male Lion on a kill halway on the S90.

On the S90 I found this beauty

A bir further another car stopped me and told me to look very carefully and I will see a male lion walking into the bush, the females and cubs have already dissapeared into the bush. I arrived at the kill site and the jackals were having a feast. At one point I counted 10.

And then the birds arrived - I can't keep all the bird pics for the duckling challenge

6 April
I have been thinking about it and this morning decided that today would be a good day to pack and go home.
This way I could see all the grandchildren and most of the children before I start work on Monday. :wall: :wall:
We left Satara just before 7 am. WE decided to do the S90, S41 , S100 loop and the drive down to Malelane and on home. On the S90 a preening Kori Bustard
Image
Image
Down the S41. The 6 males of the previous day were joined by a lioness and her sud-adult cub.

On to the S100 A big herd of buffalo

Down to Malelane no impressive sightings just lots of cars.

Hi Everyone
Just a couple of comments and answers on queations we asked ourselves before the trip started.
We wondered if we would not get bored by staying only in one camp. The answer to this was no defnitely not. Everyday was a new adventure. We had the advantage of not having to pack/unpack every now and then. We drove to Olifants once, Tshowkane once (when ESto and his family left) and Orpen once (when we had to solve the tyre problems). We could find the most productive roads and drive those more frequently.
The most productive roads were the
H1-4 up to Ngotso Dam
S100
S90
S41 from the s90 halfway to Nwanetsi

The S7 up to Nsemani dam had its moments as did the s40 and the first part of the s126.
The H6 had an hyena den and not much else. The S127 was very quiet as was the S90 North of Gudzani borehole as well as the S36.

There were very few speeding vehicles. We had toasted sandwiches at the restuarant a couple of times and the food was always well prepared and presented. The accomodation (A13) was always clean and we had great service from everyone in Satara.
