So before the cold set in, I decided to book a short camping getaway to a warmer climate for when JHB was in the icy grips of winter. The hope was that KNP would have good weather and a couple of days of sun would recharge us for the rest of the winter 8) 8)

I had previously camped during winter and the last time was the day after in snowed in JHB and even KNP was freezing during the evening. Taking this in to account I booked at Crocodile bridge hoping that it being closer to Mozam would make it warmer :hmz:

Luckily we were blessed with warm to hot days and comfortable nights

We got a site along the fence with no shade, which any other time of the year would have bothered me, but not this time. :)

I'm not going to do a traditional TR with episodes but I would just like to share some sightings and pictures with you.

Most of the area in the south had gone through controlled burns, very low intensity. There was still patches of grass around. The Rhino's moved through these rugged burned area's like tanks, grazing the remaining pieces of grass. Often ending up with black lips.

Hello Spargish
I am also form Johannesburg and we often plan a mid winter break to the KNP to experience the warmer weather and have always enjoyed it thoroughly so I imagine your trip was great and look forward to hearing more and seeing some of your pics.

Thanks for sharing with us!!

Thanks for all the Wonderful comments :gflower:

You always get spectacular sunsets and sunrises in KNP but there is a little extra atmosphere in a crisp winters morning or a dusty evening sunset.

The glowing sun, slinks slowly down behind the harsh, dry and grey veld, ushering in the darkness of night
Image

After darkness the sun returns slowly wrestling back control from the cold that the darkness allowed in, creating an eerie atmosphere over the veld..
Image

A sunset can also create a beautiful silhouette, highlighting the solitariness of the veld, who knows how many dramas this lone tree has seen play out under a black sky.

Of course one needs to make sure they are comfortable back at camp. The most important being a good nights sleep for me, an uncomfortable night in bed normally carries through into the day.

Nothing like the smell of a wood fire, no matter where else you braai, or with what you braai, it will never be the same as a Kruger braai

Image

Nothing quite like a potjie on a mild African evening

spargish, another lovely TR

Love the idea of a 'black lip white rhino' :D

Amazing sunrises and sunsets...

...But I love your way of fire making...I am also a wood fire guy - it just tastes different...

Must say, that Croc Bridge camp is a great camp with excellent sighting opportunities close by.
