Caught up... fantastic to have time with a little one

Catching up again.

The lizard kill is amazing Just goes to show that you don't have to be out pounding the roads for great sightings.

The tree mouse is such a cute little thing. I had great fun trying to get photos when we were there.

The lion cub is just too adorable. Love the big innocent eyes, and the shot of Dad and the cub is priceless. I hope there are more lion shots because I'm not even close to being lionbored.

My very best though has to be the tree rat/mouse

Back at the camp, we started a fire and settle down with a frostie. We had offered Franco dinner and were trying to have it ready a bit earlier that our usual 8.30 to 9.00 pm. Well, we managed and it was around 8.00 pm when we gave Franco signs that dinner would be ready for collection. But as we were standing there at the braai, this came to the waterhole and postponed the whole dinner idea for a few minutes



The leopard was followed by an AWC which in turn was followed by the brownie which in turn was followed by one of the males that we had seen earlier up the road.



It had been a busy half an hour!!! The lion had walked 3.8 k’s within less than 2 hours we concluded. Once he had finished his business at the waterhole he started calling for his family. The calls between the 5 of them proceeded throughout the night and left us with sleepy eyes the next morning...

Other sightings of the day

Not much, but seeing that we only travelled 5k’s up the road and back again three times that day it’s not really surprising.

We did get to see 6 kudus on the GK access road though. Here is one of them:

That's why I didn't call my TR 'Pumbaa goes lionbored...' No, honestly - we sure enjoyed seeing lions. I would have just loved to have seen more cheetah (and maybe a daylight leopard) instead.


Yes, and you did a brilliant job telling us you had seen nothing there in the meantime.

The few cars is the beauty of the north in KTP. You're almost guaranteed to see something when there are only a 3 or 4 cars around.

The little one certainly is very cute but he always tried to copy his dad doing the sleeping thing. But every movement in the cars got him alert again. Shame, he didn't have any siblings. Might have made for some good interaction.

Innocent? He was quite bold, I tought with leaving the family behind and wandering off on his own. But he definitely made my day. I adore any fluff ball.

Alas, I missed the shot when the little one came too close to his daddy and dad was snarling at him. I'm sure that would have been quite nice as well.

Ja, I got them, but I need to improve the nighttime leopard next time around -
especially if I don't get to see them during the day again, like this time.

GK was good to you guys! At least you got a pic of the leopard! Beautiful birds once again but my heart has been stolen by that cute cub with the gorgeous eyes! Fantastic LS!
