 Not again....... those Phala Ellies must really want to show off when you are near.

It has been a very special time, introducing SIL to Kruger, and reacquainting our daughter.

Yes the day was very kind to us..........except "Mr Grumpy".

Hello Val, Dungy and family. Christmas greetings to you all.

I have been reading but not having time to post a reply recently.

Lovely to see water in the Shingwedzi river at the causeway. Looked at my November pics and found one of the causeway but the river is dry, dry, dry. Hopefully there will be more rain - they are offering 60% tomorrow on the weather. (we need a cross-your-fingers smiley :D )

Love your ellie scratching. What a comical pose. :D :D Also the giraffe with no head, what a strange sight.

The ground hornbills, especially the one you caught in flight.

And your lions on the way back to Phala.  I wonder if that male is actually older and has just not got a full mane. His body has scars which give me that feeling.

Can't wait to hear about today's trip. :D

Thanks for your lovely detailed comment.
Interesting about the male lion.
Yes we were so pleased to see water at the causeway, we were expecting it to be dry!!
The scratching Ellie really was funny to watch!!!

So glad to read that you did eventually find some of the rarer antelope in the end Val,
I was so disappointed when I saw that you hadn't managed to actually get to the Tihongonyeni WH after going all that way!
and then the Lions in love couple after Mr Grumpy giving you a hard time!
Super pics, thanks for sharing and for keeping us up to date on all the adventures. :k

Hi Val. Just flitting into your lovely TR from time to time as we have now thousands of pics to collate and organise for our own TR. Great pics of the lions licking and smooching.   Isn't it always when one is in a hurry that the sightings pop out to slow one down!

Day 53 (Dec 23rd)
No park today.

Day 54 (Dec 24th)
No park again.............lots of last minute things to do in preparation for tomorrow.

Day 55 (Dec 25th)
Today we were to attend the morning service on the banks of the Letaba River, and then watch a special little girl be Christened.

We were up at 4.30am, and at the gate just turned 5am to join the longest queue I've ever seen.

Luckily we had pre booked a day Visit, because I'm not sure we would have got in otherwise.

We were due to meet everyone at Letaba reception at 7am, but this queue was moving really slowly, and at 5.45am we had hardly moved.

A ranger was coming down the road, explaining to people that they were just letting a few cars in at a time, so we explained about the service and eventually she let us jump the queue.!!!

By this time I had started to feel quite unwell, but I was so looking forward to seeing all our friends and being part of the service that I just hoped I would feel better as time went on.

We got through the gate eventually at 5.55am and Dungy did a steady 50 all the way to Letaba, arriving at 7.05am.

I was starting to feel better, until I opened the car door and the heat hit me!!!

To cut a long story short, I made it to the river bank, where I could hear Hippos and Elephant (a bit worrying, but no one else seemed to find it so) but by now I was really unwell and in need of a loo, so we had to abandon the service and return to Letaba, to the Disabled Ablutions!!!

Reluctantly we made our way back to Phala, and saw a few animals along the way, including a shy male Lion, who was flopped down under a tree. I was not in the mood for taking photos, so we just had a quick look, then made our way back to Phala. By the time we got to the gate, the quota had been reached so it was closed to anyone not booked!!!

I was not a hundred percent, most of the day, but managed to eat and drink a few things!!!

Day 56 (Dec 26)
A lazy day at home.............back to the park tomorrow.

Hey Val, missed out a bit, but tonight I could catch up all I missed!

So sorry you were not feeling well on such a special day, but hoping you are all better soon!

Have to tell you, 3 days ago we heard the CB chicks for the first time in the nesting log, they make a loud buzzing sound, very strange. Mom and dad started yelling (a loud cack-cack-cack) at anyone, even the dash hounds, coming close the there tree about 10 days ago. Two very dedicated parents feeding their chicks non stop! We are so exited! There is no sign of the second female, maybe she felt neglected and went looking for her own male.

Enjoy the park tomorrow!
