This is one of those last minute impulsive bookings. Needed it to warm the soul during the cold Highveld winter. Checked online and found bookings for:

21/22 June – Malelane
23 June - Olifants

I told the Driver to cancel all engagements as his services were required. I took some photos from past Kruger trips and put them to a song just in case the Driver forgot his duties

Just Drive the Car

Wish we could plan spur of the moment visits to Kruger, only problem is it would have to be a long moment, it's a long swim across the Atlantic after swimming down the west coast of America and throught the Panama Canal. We have to plan well in advance.
I am really trying hard not to start packing! :) Can't wait for to see pics and stories!

Don't swim in those cold waters just jump into the limo hugh has so kindly supplied

Welcome chirinda

Like all our trips to the Kruger this one was another marvelous trip. The weather was a lot warmer than Johannesburg and the sightings were excellent.

Driver Ellieton was ecstatic he could now be amongst his beloved ellies. Our last few trips were to the KTP and the MZNP, so he missed them. I did not realize how much :D

Had sightings of two leopards that Driver spotted. Did not get any photos, wonder if that has anything to do with the driver spotting them

We met some lovely Mites: Big5spotter, Yusuf and the delightful ecojunkie, who’s company we enjoyed on the two evenings we spent in Malelane.

We are just busy sorting out the photos and I will start the TR as soon as I am done.

We came across a rhino midden which attracted insects which in turn attracted the Little Bee-eaters.

Image

Image

Image

Further on a few cars were parked off and we found these lions sprawled out. we were told there were two lionesses and two cubs. Not a good sighting so we moved on.

Image

When we reached Malelane Camp the welcoming party gave us the once over

Image

We unpacked, relaxed for a while and then went out for a drive and found the dancing rhinos.

Thank you Crested Val, anne-marie, hilda, MM and Pumbaa  So glad you enjoyed the birds.

These rhinos were having a serious territorial battle. Neither one wanted to back off, at the same time they did not look like they wanted to hurt each other.

It was serious but it was also

Dancing Rhinos

At the end of round one the resident one did some marking, and came out for round 2, asking

Who Are You

We were out of the camp at 6.00 as as per usual. On the S23, the Biyamiti Loop

We found a lioness on the road. She looked as though she was still lactating and she seemed disturbed by

this lioness across the riverbed. She seemed to be searching for something in the palms, maybe cubs :hmz:

We left them and carried on to the S114

Here we had one of most extraordinary sighting ever

Thank you cheetah2111, normana53, noel, VVV and hilda

We saw this hyena from a distance and he was bent over in the long grass so we thought he must be eating something.

Image

When we got closer we realised that it was a hyena den :D

and we could also see the Mum and a tiny cub  Difficult to focus with with the long grass swaying but we got some pics

Image

Image

Image

Image

and then the Mum stood up and headed towards us :o

She was calling, a low purring sound, and crossed the road in front of us :hmz:

We set of from Malelane at 6.00 AM. At the hyena den only the young one was around - no mom and tiny one :(

Further on we saw a grey headed bush shrike hopping around in a tree but managed to get one pic

Image

It was quiet till Skukuza where we had a break. On the low level bridge over the Sabie River, the first of the water sports - fishing
