So at Lake Panic in July this year. And first I thought that the bird on the left was a chic but seeing later photos taken there this year of chics and all I reckon this was a pair and that makes sense. Because one of them would sort of honk and then the other one flies off and fetches something - a stick usually. And in a while another honk and off he goes again. I guess it's the "he" who is being told what to do because that's the way it is around here.

So I was there about mid morning and I think maybe that's not the best time of the day for the hide at Lake Panic. What would be a good time as I am off to Skukuza in December?

Cheers -Ed

Thank you for the kind comments

Tobieo thanks for posting the brilliant images....pin sharp as usual
(what about also posing a few images of the Elephants crossing.please)

moobox - great sighting of the Herons

We visit at LP in December every year and the key is to spend time there. Many people just look and go and miss out on some wonderful sightings. Nothing can happen for 1/2 hour but then suddenly it is all action. December is very warm but the best time for photography is the afternoon from +- 15h00 with the sun behind the hide. The best time early morning is in Winter with sunrise with some wonderful sightings but after the sun get brighter it is time to go for a drive.

In the middle of the day is the time for if you are lucky you will spot the Elephants bathing. (See Tobio report)

Some days everything come together...

We found the Leopard on the gravel road to LP. After he move away we new he was on his way to LP... .and we were just in time to photograph him in the hide...memory that will stay with me for a long time...

moobox, great heron sighting and thank you for nice story. please post some more....

Jan, what a rare and magnificent experience to be in the hide and then see a leppie coming down to drink. I think is every Lake Panic goer's dream. How many times one will sit there and then this experience will play off in one's mind's eye...only dreaming....

Thank you for the comments :D :D

Tobieo..we visit LP for over 30 years and only saw twice a Leopard at LP. Wish we were there when the Elephants cross....

The sad thing about the amount of images per page are that on some threads months go by before a page is turned........

In July people arriving a few minutes after me at the hide asked me whether I had seen the leopard just after the turn off to Lake Panic - unfortunately I didn't. Either it wasn't there when I passed or I was too keen to get to the hide and not looking around enough while driving.

Hope this will help the page to turn...
