Buglette What I Miss About KTP April 2012

Unread postby Buglette » Tue Apr 24, 2012 5:02 pm

You know how one thing leads to another . . . especially when you’re addicted to writing trip reports. Well, as I was doing my report ‘Rambling Round the Richtersveld’, I found my errant mind constantly straying to thoughts of KTP.

After meandering up from Cape Town via Algeria, Pella and Riemvasmaak, we had spent six glorious nights at Kagalagadi before heading off to the Richtersveld. Our route in KTP was from Tweerivieren to Mata Mata, then Nossob and back to Tweerivieren. The time of the year was August when the weather is just right - days not too hot and the nights not too bone-chilling.

I scratched around my files and sorted some pics so that I can reminisce with you. Hope you’ll join me for my short and sweet trip down memory lane.

What I miss about KTP:

Red, red sand dunes

Image

Wildebeest marching to the nearest waterhole

Image

The ever-lurking hyenas

Image

And moms taking care of little ones

Image

Oh, those majestic Kalahari lions

Image

As well as the little creatures

Image

And the medium-sized ones

Image

I miss looking upwards to see a bateleur in the branches above

Image

And vultures mating without falling from their tree

Image

I long for the wide open spaces

Image

And the silhouettes of dead trees against the African sky

Image

I miss gatherings at the waterholes

Image

And springbok shade parties in the heat of day

Image

Also, getting up close to gemsbok, my favourite antelope

Image

These are the things I miss!

More memories tomorrow . . .

I miss the Kgalagadi birds - big

Image

And small

Image

And those poor, ungainly giraffe battling to drink

Image

I remember observing clashes in the dust between lusty males

Image

And an angry male disciplining his harem

Image

I recall stopping off at Auchterlonie to stretch my legs

Image

And watching fiery sunsets with a drink in hand

Image

Before flopping into bed in a comfy chalet

Image

These are the things I miss about KTP.

Image

Sigh!

There are a couple of things I don't miss about KTP:

Those bumpy corrugated roads

Image

And not being able to do anything for the loser after a clash for supremacy

Image

Otherwise everything was perfect.
