I need to get this started otherwise I'll never begin!!!

This April trip of us started ( with out to much planning!!!) when SO saw two nights opened at Urikarus!!!

Now being in Upington and having done the quick weekend getaway thousands ( yes I know not really ) of times, we could have done it again...................but my brain told my body that she needs a lot more KTP treatment so I thought lets make it a week................

So I started to look for other availability..............so we ended up with 2 nights in Uri, 3 nights Mata Mata river front and one last night at Kieliekrankie..................

We were set to leave easter Monday after we've dropped of daughter at the airport and we could not wait...........then Sunday morning my Mom phone to say she fell the previous evening and she thinks that her knee is broken..............sooooooooooooo we rushed there, got the ambulance ( and I must say in Upington you don't do the normal Ambulance service because there is no service!!!!) to take her to hospital. After all the x-rays confirmation that her knee-cap is broken and the doctor is going to operate............but only by Wednesday.

To go or not to go!!!!

In the end we decided to go, we could only visit her twice a day and if any thing happens they could radio us and we would be back in town in less that 3 hours............

Any way..............after we made a quick visit to the hospital to say goodbye, we were off to the airport for daughter to catch her flight, and just after half ten we were on our way to KTP.

We made a quick visit at Moose to drop of some groceries ( and I had to see myself that this girl is okay!!!) and then it was us, a week in the park and peace and quiet!!!!

Now to get to the guess what part!!!

As most of you know leopards are the one thing I really want an awesome sighting off!!!!

Over the years and numerous visits, we've only succeeded to see three leopards and none we up close and personal.............

In order to help Lionspoon with her mobile webcam project:

1.I'll pay for each correct guess of How many leopards we saw on this trip a hundred Rand to the project.

If you want you could place bets ( really can be small amounts R10 etc) between each other or if you guess correct pay an amount..........it's all up to you

2. We had what I though were a not so ordinary sighting during our trip ( and I'll give you a clue it was not a bird!!!)

I'll pay for each correct guess of what the not so ordinary animal was that we saw a five hundred Rand to the project.

Same applies here, if you want you could give to the project if you guess correct or you could bet against each other.

Come on Angels and Musketeers................this is going to be a lot of fun!!!!

I have read my tea leaves and if I haven't had too much Amarula this morning already they say:
5 leopards was seen...
An aardvark was seen...
Now for the TR I can't wait!
Ok and if I guessed right I will contribute R250 to the webcams! And if I'm not right I will contribute R250 to the webcams!

Zar 500... or is a big animal... or a very unsual... big like Elephant ... Porcupine ?
and Leopards I saw so many this year and not even one last year , so I guess 3, three Leopards
and I bet Zar 100 if... if one or both guesses are right

and also for your mom... oups painfull... a lot of thoughts

Take a guess at what we saw in KTP April 2012

Day 1 Part 1


We were in TR just after 12H00 and booked in at reception. Then we quickly popped in at Moose and then it was out and through the gates.

We decided to rather do the leeudril 4X4 than the dune road between TR and Houmoed. What a lovely route to follow!!!

At Houmoed we witnessed our first kill…….



His friend was watching from above



I assume the snack was way too small to share!!!

Just need to get rid of all these feathers



Now I’m beginning to wonder why this birdie looked so big when I swooped in to catch it............



Then down the road this one posed so nice on a dead tree stump

The rest of the trip up to Urikarus was really very quiet………….bliss………….we’re home!!!


Then just past Kamqua………..an odd 600 meters…………..three cars………..and what do we have on our left.

Some very sleepy lions on a Gemsbok kill. Second kill for the day!!!

Daddy is guarding the carcass…………..



The rest is fast a sleep



Oh my goodness why DID I eat so much!!!



Mommy is laying a bit further from the rest……..also fast asleep



There it is again that incredible uncomfortable feeling……….I ate too much!!

My guess is you saw 4 leopard and as for the other....I'll go aardvark too

As no-one has guessed the special animal correct, I think I should maybe give you an extra little clue on the special sighting...........I haven't seen a photo of this in the other KTP TRs ( maybe in the older ones that I haven't read).........it's seen fairly often in KNP.........it's a medium sized animal...........now I feel less cold blooded after giving you some clues.

Okay.....I am going with 4 leopards and an African Rock Python!

Cheetah!!!...........I'll be fair ( and just because at this stage no one has guessed it and it is not costing me any thing.....so poor webcam project is not gaining anything from this!!! )......you can change your guess of the animal if you want to and you can guess up to 3 animals!!!

BUT please if you change do not edit your post.......I'm just to lazy to go back ......please just do a new posting.....

And cheetah ..........why haven't you read more KTP trip reports????......then you would have known that there is NO wild doggies on the SA side any more.........as far as I could gather last seen by Guss Mills somewhere in the late 1970's...... .........and if we were so lucky to have seen doggies I would NEVER been able to keep it a secret for sooooooo long!!!!

Well, I'm not one to let a challenge go by so I'm taking a wild guess at 7, yes SEVEN , leopards. It's a totally crazy number and if you did see that many I may just explode from jealousy.

Your lion pics at the kill were enough to get the green man going, anyway.

I was going to guess the other animal as a pangolin.
