We spent 5 night at Pretoriouskop 28th – 2nd Jan. arrived via Malelane to hot weather. Rain started that afternoon and lasted most of the night. First time we have been unable to cook supper! 29th and 30th mostly overcast with odd shower. Brightened up New Years eve and New Years day.

The bush around P’kop is lovely and green and lush again, not like September. Grass not as long as last year.

We had some great sightings – I won the spotting contest with Jan, lions 2 – rhinos 16.
I have loaded some photos on flickr (see below) so just a few highlights,

Ground Hornbill flying into tree with dead snake (only video).
Lots of lovely Kudu, Water Buck and babies everywhere. ( Impala, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Warthog, Hyena, Zebra)

We were very lucky this trip, we also saw the pack two days earlier, but being mid afternoon they were lazing around in the bush.
Jan was ecstatic about the leopard sighting. She spotted it, there was no-one else around and within a minute or so it jumped down and disappeared.

We saw the tsessebe at the dam on our way from P'kop to the Phabeni Gate on the last morning.


This was rhino 15 and 16, cute!

I think the bird is a Tawny Eagle, but it might be a good idea to post it on the bird forum.

Thanks for the report, had some really good sightings.
Guys I have to say thats a Wahlbergs Eagle, looking at its tail!
