... and watch out in the mornings when you brake camp - they tend to hide under the ground sheet.

In 8 days we only saw 2 scorpions - both on the trail.

I always wear shoes. It also helps when driving.
Whatever (according to BB): "You are correct but I don't want to admit it".

Can't wait for Day2 Clip2 either...

Here most of us are chilling, relaxing and trying to hide from the heat at Eileen's Pan:

I'll post my pics of camp and sunsets after the next Big Bertha Clip.

So bring on Big Bertha were indeed the vultures were circling to pick up the leftover scraps after Big Bertha spew out most...

"Right" said Fred, in the Kgalagadi,
hands on both sides and steady as we go.
Tried to shift it, couldn't even move it,
he was getting nowhere
so he had a cuppa tea and....

"Right" said Fred "Gave a shout to Barcud.
Up came Barcud from the camp below.
After straining, heaving and complaining,
we was getting nowhere
and so we had a cuppa tea....

and Barcud had to think, and he thought we need a Lion
so Fred could get a move on.
But it did no good, well I thought it never would.
"All right" said Fred, "We'll have to take the seat off"
To get that seat off wouldn't take a mo....

Took the seat off, even put his feet up
need more space to shift the so and so.
Had bad twinges, taking off the hinges
and it got us nowhere
and so we had a cuppa tea.............

Big Bertha certainly lived up to her name........

Switchback checks out the conditions (under the watchful eye of Aubrey I hasten to add)

Switchback & PRWIN check the lower approach...

Big Bertha 1 - Aubrey 0

Big Bertha 0 - Switchback 1

Tackling Big Bertha involved some serious thinking from all...

Correct tyre pressures were required
Image

A good start at the bottom was in order
Image

With a bit of speed to help on the initial slope
Image

Acceleration just before the steeper slope
Image

But whatever happens, keep all fours on the ground

As the contestants lined up for their attempt at Big Bertha, the Secretary was ready to mark up the scores
Image

the Martial kept a watchful eye out for foul play

Experts were on hand with powerful digging tools in case they were needed

Whilst some just crowed on and on about the big event

Meanwhile, the spectators craned their necks to get a better view of proceedings

Thanks for all the good comments! I must thank Muller for taking the camera up the dune. You may hear him panting on the one bit of footage - he ran up Bertha with the camera @ +/- 40 degC, with very hot sand constantly getting into his sandals! Thanks Muller!!
