Karoo NP Trip Report 05

Unread postby alya000 » Wed Dec 28, 2005 9:43 pm

Hello to you,
Karoo is a small & lovely park accessible with all types of car. We spend there 2 nights on the way to Kalahari.
You don't really need to organize your stay because Beaufort West is near if you want to buy food and you have the opportunity to eat in the excellent restaurant of the park (breakfast is included !).
Our accomodation was a cottage. It's a little more expensive but you have a pretty terrace with all the view without obstruction. Early morning we saw a lot of springboks passing in front of our cottage and away, on the mountain, a herd of zebra and eland. We also enjoy visits and songs of local birds. The sky at night is beautiful, full of stars.
We drove on 2 roads (partially gravel) and we saw many animals in spite of the smallness of the park. Plenty of tortoises especially at the waterhole (hide for birdwatchers) near the camp. And strange red grasshoppers  . Herds of zebras, elands, springboks and some raptors.
Landscapes are beautiful and drive thru Klipspringer Mountain Pass is a pleasant moment.
No predator, so good for hikers.
In short : well for all the ages, practical, easy and comfortable and.... Quiet !

Take a look here to have an idea :

have fun !
