At the Lion kill we got a hint from a nice guy, whom i have to thank for that. He told us to drive to the Sweni Waterhole, we should not regret it.

Arrived at the Waterhole we spotted them.....LIONS....again. We saw 4 of them about 70 metres away, lying next to the waterhole. They relaxed in the shade, but a few minutes after our arrival we heard some noise.....crashing branches.....The Lions got up and watched all in the same direction!

Elephants...A herd of more than 25 Ellies came to the waterhole for an evening drink.

The elephants chased the lions away. I saw them disappearing in the bush. But a few moments later i could get a glimpse of them. They layed down. I told my girlfriend to stay here, stop the engine and watch. Maybe we have some luck!

We were the only car there, and we had the luck on our side!!!!!!!!!!

I positioned the car directly between the lions and a herd of impalas, keeping them enough space for a possible hunt...

Suddenly i saw something moving in the bush....i noticed the head of a lioness. She came closer, and closer.....slowly....she was stalking!

Image

Image

My heart was bumping fast. Ready for taking the ultimate pics....
Unfortunately the impies recognized the danger and ran away. The lioness looked back where she came from and moved in direction to our car.....She layed down about 10 metres away from us and then the party went on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more words, let the pictures tell the story!!!! I hope you like them...

That was a really special sighting. I loved it to stay with the lions watching them interact.
That was an absolutely highlight!!!!!

Well, but i have to say.........i can top it again!!!!!!

The next morning started with a BANG......

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU........... :D

I´m so happy that you like my pics!

So i don´t want to let you wait anymore and get ready for the next episode!!!

---------------------------------------------------------

After the lion sighting at the Sweni Waterhole we were so excited. We were chatting about the sighting and the whole situation how everything happened.
We had a nice braaii with a bottle of lovely wine.....That night, i was dreaming! About cats! Big cats!

The next morning, we decided to drive south and check the lion kill from the day before.
BEST DECISION EVER!
One other car was standing on the road and i could only see some vultures from far away. That made me think, that the lions are not there anymore. But i failed....

The whole pride of 9 Lions was having a feast on that wildebeest!!! 10 metres away from our car....
We could here the bones breaking.....awesome!!!!!

The Lions had a lot of guests for breakfast, but they were not welcome at all!!!!
Different kind of vultures, BBJ and a Hyena joined the party to get their piece of the buffet...

Our second night in Satara we heard the Lions roaring.....

I don´t know how to describe the feeling, when you´re lying in your bed and hear that geese bumping noise....

The next morning we drove the H6 in direction to NWanetsi.
We had some lovely sightings in the beautiful morning light.

We turned onto the S37, direction to Sweni Hide.
Suddenly i saw something moving in the thick bush and i realized immediately what it was....

I spotted a Lioness....

I slowed down. The Lioness was hard to see through all these small trees and bushes. But a few moments later i spotted her again. And not only her!!!! She was not alone. A big Male was with her. And they had a kill!!!!!!!! A joung wildebeest. Through the binocs i saw the bloody mouth of the Lioness.

They started feasting on their kill.

We were the only car there. It was great. Some minutes later another car arrived.
We had a short chat before they were leaving.

Minutes later the Male came out of the bush and layed down under a tree. A few moments later the Lady aswell, but about 20 metres next to the Male. The light was not so good for taking pics against the sun, so here are the results.

After breakfast in Satara we heard someone telling a ranger, that there´s something special on the way to Orpen.
We jumped up and headed in that direction. On the tar road, in direction to Orpen, we came into a big traffic jam.
I asked a guy in another car, what to see. Leopard, was his answer.

There were so many cars, that it took some time to come in the right place to spot the cat.

But a few minutes later we saw it....A Male Leopard with a blind eye. It was hot, so he was not that kind of active....

It was really hard to get some good pics, because the sun was standing high and the Leopard was lying in the shade.

After our Leopard sighting we decided to the S36 to the Muzandzeni Picnic Spot, because on that road were a two white spots for cheetah sightings that day. So, we tried our luck.

On the way we had some nice bird sightings.

Image

The next pic is one of my favourites of the trip...

Image

Image

Unfortunately we didn´t find the cheetahs, but we some leovely sightings at Shimangwaneni Dam.

2 Juvenile Bateleurs

Image

It was hot! About 40 degrees celsius, so the most animals stayed in the shade or refreshed at the water.

Image

That was one of the Top 5 of my girlfriends wishlist. Drinking Giraffe

We decided to go back to the Leopard sighting in hope that it had moved closer to the road!

On our way we saw a beautiful Bateleur sitting in a tree

Image

We passed the NSemani Dam again. It´s always very busy there. Nice place to stop the engine and enjoy the view and the animals.

Image

Image

We arrived where we had seen the Leopard in the morning. There were still a few cars.
We spotted it. But he was more far away than before. I could manage to get some shots as he moved deeper in the bush.

Image

Image

We left the Leopard about 20 minutes before gate closing time.

I took a picture of the grass, because it looks so beautiful in the evening light. :P

Image

We´ve been a little bit in a hurry, and how life is if you don´t have time, we had really a nice sighting.

A single Lioness next to the road. I took a few pics and moved on.

Image

And if that was not enough, we came into a Buffalo roadblock!!!!!!!!!

Image

We arrived in Satara at 5:59 pm!!!!

We had a quick braai and prepared us for our night drive!!!! And what a night drive it was...........

After our quick braaii, i saw something moving about 20 metres from our chalet. My first thought was Honey Badger, but i failled.....It was an African Wildcat!!!

I jumped up, grabbed my Camera, said to my girlfriend to take the torch and to follow me.

We followed the AWC through the camp, until she vanished behind the fence. GREAT!!!!!!

Image

Image

At 8 pm we started our night drive. The drive was fully booked. First animal we saw, a Large Spotted Genet....

Image

On the junction to the S100 we hit the jackpot....
A pride of Lions had made a fresh kill. We watched them feasting on that Zebra for a while, listening these awesome noises....

Image

The headline for the next pic is: SPEEDING CONTROL!

The next morning i got up earlier than usual. I wanted to enjoy the noises of the bush while everyone else was still asleep. It was magical.

At 5:30 we hit the road to Skukuza, leaving Satara behind with a lot of fantastic memories.... :D :D :D

Our plan for the day: Breakfast at Tshokwane, short Visit at Orpen Dam, Down to Mlondozi Dam, Lunch at Lower Sabie and then straight to Skuks.

Here we go...

We passed the Lion kill from last night, but only a hungry hyena was there to check the rest of the bones.

Image

Image

Image

About 8 km after Satara we saw a small pride of Lions hunting Impalas in the riverbed. We could only see them for a few moments.

Beautiful Brown Snake Eagle

Image

Shortly before the Mazithi Dam we saw Lions again. A pride of 15 animals lying about 100 metres away in the shade.

Huge Crocs at Orpen Dam

Breakfast guests at Tshokwane

At Mlondozi suddenly a huge herd of Buffalos arrived. The guy who is working there told that these are more than 1000 Buffalos.

Image

Mlondozi was as always, breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!! I love this place.

We made us on our way to Lower Sabie for Lunch..............After lunch i have a BIG SURPRISE for you!!!!
