They believe seeing a steenbuck is lucky. Saw nothing else but on returning to camp found 6 lions in the riverbed in front of the restaurant!

Herman reports they just finished their braai when a typical Highveld Thunderstorm hit. Says he's glad they're not camping as usual.

Salva wrote:Quite a lot of Cheetah action around LS the last couple of weeks!

Question: whet is a "dikkop". I know the word but in my language it's not really wildlife related.

It's a bird, Salva. The new name is "thick-knee". Two species are common residents in Kruger: the spotted thick-knee and the water thick-knee.

Hi !
Back in "civilization" Batteries recharged in park !!
Here are a few pics of the weekend....
The park is lovely and green - Weather changed from very hot on Friday and Saturday to wonderfully overcast and rainy on Sunday till today..
Image

Kudus seemed very happy - shortly after I took this pic, they all looked up and ran to the other side of the road. We then noticed the small cat in the grass.. not sure if it was a Vaalboskat, looked too big for Swartpoot wildekat and not quite like a serval. It was stalking a bird - Spotted thick knee.
Too quick and too difficult in the tall grass for a pic :(
Image

We had quite a few nice hyena sightings..
Image

We saw this lioness with two sickly looking juveniles just outside Olifants camp - TB ?
Image

Later saw this happy group with a playful cub
Image

Mom and Dad joined in the games..
Image

Isn't it cute ?
Image

We saw three cheetahs on the H10 near Muntshe
Image

And this big tusker which I believe could be Duke, just south of Muntshe
