umtali1-Beginner's luck - Big 5 and 5 leopards-Aug 2011

Unread postby umtali1 » Sun Oct 23, 2011 9:29 pm

Hi,
Having used the plastic snakes at Talamati to discourage baboons all three generations of the family had a great time..

One of us was a first timer to Africa (let alone the Kruger).
Guess what - he saw the B5 on the first day
(my husband's 'tracking skills' apparently)

but our luck was really in when we saw five different leopards
over a few days..

Also lucky to see our first roan, and friends, on the S143 Tropic of Capricorn Loop at the Thihongonyeni waterhole.
One of our favourite places to wait and watch.

Also our first Boomslang..

:cam: All pictures taken by the family in the last two weeks of August 2011 (my 7th trip)
.. just a sample of thousands...

and is that a tsessebe in the background of the road!!

No. It's only a lichtenstein's hartebeest

However, on the other side of the waterhole we also had a single Tsessebe...

There were 5 more lying down to the left of the waterhole. Pictures are a bit indistinct to post.

That's why we it's one of our favourite places to sit and watch!

Yes, as you can see we had excellent sightings
and also some hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck sounds.
