Wildchild's Sightings : KNP Dec 2005

Unread postby wildchild » Tue Dec 13, 2005 9:04 pm

The deep rooted joy at having been able to make yet another trip to the KNP knows no bounds for me. Far away from the rat race that daily takes place in the concrete jungle we were blessed once more with the refuge being in tune with nature, with God's creation. Each sound that was heard in the depths of the wilderness were without doubt soothing and stress relieving to the batterred soul.Aah! The very sound of human silence was invigorating to the physche, so much so that trhe heart yearns for it to remain unending, but alas, life must go on and we have to return to the jungle we have made our home.

Enough of that! This was one of the most wonderful trips with sightings galore:

Lions X 3 sightings :D
Leopard X 1 sighting :D
Ellies Galore :D
Buffs- enough :)
Rhinos-plenty 8)
Cheetah X 1 sighting :o
Wild dogs X 3 sightings :) :D
Lots of others like impies, giraffe, baboons Kudu, Hyena etc.

details of special sightings to follow soon!!! Happy reading!!!

To begin or not to begin, that is the question that plagues me right now. I have started reporting the second trip before relating any details about the first trip, so do I complete the second trip and then come back to the first trip or do I begin this one now and thread the telling of the two tales together. But of course, the task has been made somewhat easier for me by dinkybird by searing, by separateing the two.

Nonetheless, let me begin. December had just begun. The holiday fever was at a high pitch and I had been fortunate enough to secure a booking at the Ngwenya Lodge by someone who was unable to go just then. it was afour sleeper overlooking one of the dams at the Lodge, which we had upgraded because we were five people in all. After all the phone calls, depositing the deposit and securing the upgrade we were told, to our joy, it would be a six sleeper overlooking the Crocodile river.

As ususal, got the vehicle packed at night, could not sleep a wink for the aching of being in the park once more. Got everyone up at the unearthly hour of three am, packed the cooler box and loaded all the last minute stuff like binoculars, cam etc and we were all aboard and on our way. KNP here we come....

to be continued

Due to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I was unable to really get back to reporting on
the trip we made in December. It seems as if I am working backwards in terms of trip
reports. Anyway, to continue. We reached Malelane fairly early in the morning and stopped
on the bridge before reaching the entrance. Our first sighting for the day was this, among
other crocs which were stealthily gliding towards some birds sitting on the little islands on
the river.

As we got to the Malelane entrance we couldn’t resist taking this shot:

After completing the paperwork, we offocially entered the KNP and our first sighting on
this side of the river was these impis to start the day:

As we reached the first bridge we saw this cute bird sititng on the rail:

Not much further up the road, we caught sight ofour first rhino:

Before long we ran into this entertaining zebra foal:

Will be back with more...

Hopefully it will be quicker and definitely better as we go along.

Wildebeest was next on the menu of sightings, for us as you can see:
