The next day I'm going to ROOIBOSRAND (Buigas-of-Bars) and Silveris. At Rooibosrand, the way is closed
I try to take the Swallows in flight ... but I have nothing... only landscapes, beautiful scenery, with shadows... and they come from a tree close to

I return to camp and I go around along the fence.
And I spent the rest of the afternoon to observe and try to take pictures of birds that come to the fountain. But there are so many leaves and not enought light ... I see lots of "firsts" such as African Paradise Flycatcher  , male and female, who are very shy. A Woodpecker, Southern Black Tit, African Mourning Dove, Fork-Tailed Drongo, Emerald Spotted Wood Dove, a Fork tailed Drongo, fruit and Mopane leave

The next day, I leave at dawn, I'd like to make the big loop, Red Rocks, till Joao ( Joao), a big 8

Image

It's amazing the number of chameleons that I "saved" on the road ... I understand why it takes me so long to make a few km. They all decided to cross the road, especially in northern Kruger.
I take first the north side to be on the right side of the river = less exercise to take pictures.

I find the baboons still in their night bunks, they just seem to wake up and some young are crowding against their parents. And then suddenly a Sharpe's Grysbok. If we stop in time, we can observe it ... if you want a close up ... there is a risk to have nothing at all :(

Image Wahlberg's Eagle... as per ID in the forum

Then a turtle ... dented by a car, or is it from birth :| the question is open

Image

Near the small passage / bridge over the river there are White-fronted Bee-Eater, a bit far, but very interesting and especially beautiful to look, at hunting and a nice, little squirrel that makes camoufflage

Image

Then I cross a giraffe with a Yellow-billed Oxpecker ... another first.

Image African Pygmy-Goose

This is, unfortunately one day with lots of clouds and photos show it

Back on my terrace, I saw one Red-Mousebird, Blue Waxbill, Kurrichane Trush, Crested Barbet and Squirrel

Two Members of management come to greet me and wonder why I'm not doing braai :hmz:
I give my explanations, but I don't believe I have convinced them  They must find odd, a woman who roams all alone in the park ... and who don't like too much the night

à suivre…

6) Punda Maria 24/26.3.2011

Quote:
Extract of my live report :
24 mars 2011
Bateleur super... fabulous birds
Punda Maria 40°... no wind
tomorrow going to Pafuri to see what Franck is doing

And again ... luggage ... luggage ... packing...unpacking... unstacking

I take the last photos of Bateleur's mongooses that come say goodbye and seeds / pod of a tree of 'my' patio

Image

I take the north side of Red Rock loop (S52), I love these tall trees, up to Shingwedzi, the H 1-7, till Boyela where I have good memories ... a pride of lions and visitors out of their cars :slap:

I meet the first Nyala, a very beautiful Antelope. Then, near Shingwedzi, these workers, for our comfort, under a blazing sun, clean the road, thanks for all that work! CLAP CLAP
Image

At Boyela ... nothing special, you never know in advance what will be found and it is precisely the charm of a natural park.

A short stop at Babalala, there is little place to stretch our legs in the north, so it is particularly welcome.

Along the river SHISHA a large herd of buffalo is looking for a little bit cool under the big trees, elephants are also trying to cool off ... with mud ... it's very hot

Image

Near Magamba, an elephant, with good defenses, trying again to dissuade me to continue my journey ... but I am almost as stubborn as he is

Image

There are still trees in bloom :D

I arrive at Punda Maria around 14h, I have not the courage to do the Mahonie Loop ... it must again unload it all ... but that you know it too
Fortunately I have a tent with no stairs (No. 2 on the advice of click click, thank you) so it's a little less difficult to transport. Two years ago I lived at No. 4 (the last one at the right) with a ramp / stairs, but with a more unobstructed view ... and along the fence

It is about 2 am when a big bang is heard. I run on my flashlight, the "limelight" that remain on all night and all day ... help me, and through the canvas of the front door, I see a big bug on the braai. I take the camera with one hand and the lamp on the other, open as discreetly as possible and OH  3 Galagos (Thick-tailed Bushbaby). One cleanses the braai, another reversed the tiny trash, outside, which has already a broken lid, but that is empty, I never put anything in this kind of bin and, a third awaits sitting on the railing . They are not shy, I think they do not see me, I have not turned on in the tent, I have time to photograph them

Image

Image

I did not think they were so big and ... well coated... with fur, for that matter later, in Berg-en-Dale, in front of the sliding door, I saw a Lesser Bushbaby, which was tiny.

I leave at dawn, is the big day, I want to go to Frank, to have time to chat a bit with him (and I need time  )
The first birds are White-fronted Bee-Eater, a Black-shouldered Kite, a Burchell's Cougal who disapeared immediately in the bushes and a Pin-tailed Whydah

Image Black-shouldered Kite

Image Pin-tailed Whydah

In the loop, at Klopperfontein an Elephant is already in the place "reserved" for cars, close to the bank of the small natural pond. I go down until the middle of the narrow path, in reverse, I also need a flight away distance   Observe, while remaining on my guard, others may come in fron :D . He knows I'm here and he did a show, he rubs and rubs against one of the few large trunks.
I decided to go a little further, from where you can see the same pond ... nothing else to report ... for now.
At NKOVAKULU (I think) a herd of buffaloes, occupies the site and for some reason unknown to me, they flee. Then Impalas and Kudu come and Zebras.
And again few Yellow-billed Oxpecker

In a pool a little further, two Buffaloes, and Red-billed Quela. They fly from one tree to another via the water. It's very interesting to see them in narrow rows without ever banging themselves  there is also a Tawny-flancked Prinia and a Namaqua Warbler

Image Red-billed Quela

Image Tawny-flancked Prinia (!!! I hope)

I stop on the pedestrian bridge, nothing to report, this time all the baboons are alive
And then, I go to Franck. I had never met him personally, every time I delegated, or to his brother or to someone else, the messages I had for him. Needless to say I'm thrilled to meet him, finally, and he guessed right away who I am ... What a wonderful person, very smiling. He tells me that everything is quiet right now, as the side of the birds, animals and visitors

Image Franck

And going to Crook Corner, through the forest of tall trees, I can see that few animals, large animals haven't been there ... the huge inhabited cobwebs evidenced it

and now... serious things are coming

At Crook Corner, a Nyala, White-fronted Bee-Eater, a Saddle-billed Stork in the middle of the river, hippos in the river adjacent

and then... one of the most entertaining kill/rob

and a huge crocodile catches my attention. He just caught a huge fish and tries to knock him out in the "crocodile's manner", and  a big dark shadow in the objective ... :hmz:
a Fish Eagle passes just above the Crocodile ...

Image

At the third attempt, he managed to steal a piece of his fish. The crocodile has tried to do something ... to no avail, the raptor is gone, but I don't see it no more. The fish cut in 2 parts attracts all other crocodiles, and there are many!

I showed my photos to Frank who thinks that the Eagle had to be hungry to dare such a move!
