Such a splendid sensation for someone to settle in at Satara and survey the sprawling species that survive in the savanna. I am serieously set upon scrutinizing the likes of the s90 and s40 in search of the significant, yet scarcely seen, spotted creatures
Namely, the leopard and cheetah

So just in case you got bored of reading 's' words and skipped the paragraph
The basic idea is I am going to Satara on Tuesday!!!

I'm going to be thinking of nothing other than this fact today so I might as well start my trip report

WISHLIST

I would like to start by assuring you that regarless of what we see on the trip, it will be fanTASTIC(rice). I LOVE nature and just the opportunity to be in the Kruger away from the city is enough for me to be over the moon :D :D :D :D :D :D
I love animals of all forms and any sighting is a great one

BUT
there are certain sightings that will be extra special!

1. Cheetah
never before seen in KNP and my favorite animal!

2. Leopard
would love to see a leopard close up

There are other things I would love to see but they so rare that they on the "I would love to stumble upon these animals" list.

Caracal
Serval
African Wild Cat
Civet
Genet
Hunny Badger

I am heading out there with the attitude of expect anything! But im seeking the spotties

here are some of the planned routes:

THE BIG NORTH EAST
this involves the H1-4, s90, s89, and back on the H1-4.
Not sure if its better to take the s90 first up, or straight up the H1-4 :hmz:

Here is a mini version.
THE SMALL NORTH EAST
H1-4, s90, s41, s100

Some of those pics are horrid! But you get the point
Want to do longer drives in the morning, and shorter in the afternoon to get the best part of the day and skip the heat.

So the BIG routes in the morning and Small ones in the afternoons.
Day 1 - drive to Orpen gate and then to Satara
Day 2, 3, 4, 5 = Big in morning then small in afternoon
day 6 drive home

Thank you steamtrainfan, Elsa, PetraJ, Tawny

Bushmom that is quite amazing! Hopefully we have a touch of luck!

I will be making my own pin-up sightings map to keep track of sightings we have! I have a soft material board, printed out maps, and my mom's colour head pins that she uses for sewing

Now I'm packing. convinced my father we should buy wildcards  What should I bring in terms of documentation in order to buy the wildcards?

Our fist sighting troday was a very very rare nocturnal animal which is not a spotty. But not gonna say yet ;) every drive has been special! I forgot to put my memory card in my camera before the afternoon drive today! *frustration*. So of coarse we saw nice lion, ewlephant and a herd of 600 buffalo cross on front of us!! The way things go. Tomorrow I'm heading north to ngotso. Heading back on the s39 and s40! Northwards to spotties hopefully!

Flying cheetah I hope you right! In fact I hold u to that ;)
by the way I met up with a guy today who had a lion bite his boot by berg en dal! Saw the teeth marks! The lion is apparently renown for this!

Flutterby I meant the boot of his car! lol.

More lion sightings this morning! I have seen 10 individual male lions and zero females!! What a strange trend

Flutterby apparently the car biting lion is well known for doing this! A female ranger who works at berg en dal was staying in satara for a couple of days told me this. Sorry but can't remember her name. He has done this a few times this lion.

The afternoon drive was a bit quiet. Had a tree filled with about 10 raptors! Bataleurs and another type I'm not familiar with. The s100 was very quiet this afternoon in terms of sightings.

The shop is full of ppl buying carcoal, meat, drinks and ice. Only buying the essentials!! Ppl are buying alcohol but having to show proof of overnight stay. Good stuff!

The pin up board has lots of pins to the north everyday. Its the cooking area right now. The game there is prolific and have personally seen lion on the H1-4 three times! Tired of that road now. Going south tomorrow early. Our neighbors are having a competition with us to see who will see spotties first!! Enjoying the camp chatter and friendship around the braai :)
