So back they went to walking on the top of the ridge. We drove on to where the Springbuck have come to a stand still. There was a nice place for the cheetahs to come down the ridge…………… maybe they would be lucky the next time.

To give you an idea on how long we were with them when we first arrived it was 12H45 by now it was 14H13……………hour and a half later and it is hot hot hot……….

Then mom makes her next move. All I could think was start taking photos of the buck she will run them in from behind.

Image

By the forth photo mom was in the picture!!!!

Image

Then all I could see was dust…………

Image

The next four photos is nothing but dust………… then a springbuck head right in front of the bakkie.

OMW they are now right in front of us. All I could think was take photos never mind if it is through the windscreen……….Thanx Picnic for cleaning it that morning. Ok so I can’t zoom, because there is way to much dust and the camera don’t want to focus on the cheetah but the windscreen………….

From where she started chasing the Springbuck up to where she had one of the buck on its own was less than one minute……….

There was no sign of the two daughters. They was no were near to lend a helping hand.

With one smooth swoop she got the buck…………I’m sure the next photos will tell there own story…………..

As you can see there was a lot of dust. I must say it was all over in a few seconds. Thank goodness for that.

Caracal,

I always thought I would cry myself in a coma..............poor Springbuck, but it was all over so quickly that I never even thought of crying. From where she had her on the ground to where she was dead was really seconds. Never even saw a drop of blood.

Heart racing???????????? I was on a high for the rest of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LS,

It was in my opinion a once in a life time sighting..........for us a first. small secret oops she did it again later in TR

At that stage there was more the 10 cars. For Kgalagadi a huge road block.................and we were so lucky to be in front, I kept on asking Picnic were p@m was. Luckily they were right behind us and her SO took some stunning picks. There was a bakkie with a caravan and I was so glad we did not end up behind them

Image

Mommy still had the Springbok in her mouth.

Image

After a while she looked up and called for her two children……….boy she must be out of breath and very tired

Image

She stood up and left the springbok right there in the road and walked over to the shade……….

Image

She laid down in the shade with the 2 ladies of leasure…………

Just when we thought we will move on so that the people behind us can see some of the action………….one of the children got up and ran to the buck……….

Oh well we are not going past there without hitting her, so we stayed………

Image

She started pulling the springbok across the road……….she was spinning in the loose sand………

Image

Help arrived and it went a whole lot better……….

Image

Up the steep road side………

Image

Image

Just look at those claws……………cropped a lot not the best pic…….

Sus…………I need some help here……

Image

Ok so no one is going to help me……………then I’ll do it all by myself

Image

Image

Image

Thank goodness I made it to the shade……..and not a moment to soon

Image

At this stage we felt that we have seen more than enough and it is going to last us for a life time………….so we went on our way back to camp and hoped that the other people would have a nice time with the 3 ladies………………

To be continued…………..

TRIP 2 DAY 2 – 24/10/2010

Today we were still on a high from yesterdays sighting and decided to just drive up to Mata Mata and turn round and try and leave the park early enough to be back home before it gets to late……………

I think every thing seemed a bit ordinary no matter what we saw after yesterday!!

So here is some general game……………..

Image

Image

Image

This was what the Urikarius den had to deliver to us………

Image

To me it seems as if every one have better photos and close ups of this den, but in all these years this is what we see every time!!!

At thirteenth this king was enjoying an early morning nap………..does not really look very regal???

Image

He did not move so we did!!!

A bit further on we saw some Springbuck that kept there eyes on brown objects……..we could not figure out what it was, until moving forward. Three Kudus were walking to the waterhole and it really looked as if the Springbuck was weary of them???

Image

Image

Image

At Dalkeith we saw 2 BEFs . As usual the started running the moment the saw us………..It seems as if I’ll always have pictures of BEF backsides!!!

Now some Gemsbokke!!

Image

These 4 was having a dust bath, but kept an eye on all the vehicles passing by………..almost could hear them…………Hubby that one should have enough space if all the eggs hatch!! No I like that colour and I’m way to young to have to worry about children at this stage!!!

Image

These 3 Gemsbokke posed very nice for us………..

Image

Image

Back at Samevloeiing we saw this one resting underneath one of the trees!! I do hope he gave a stunning performance later the afternoon for the Sundowner group!!!

Image

We were of back home and I must say we had a song in our hearts!!!

Next to follow another quick weekend visit in Trip3 of this TR………….
