Vthebushman and family visits the Northern Kruger

Gone so quickly, we started our trip to Tsendze on Monday morning and returned back to our Numbi Gate house late yesterday and amazed that our time north ended so quickly. Monday morning after planning meeting with the staff we drove to Phalaborwa with a short breakfast stop in Hoedspruit and then again a stop in phalaborwa for ice and some goodies. Entered Phalaborwa gate and met up with an ex employee Rodney Landela (now section ranger of Phalaborwa section) and after chatting with him continued on to Mopanie for check in. All the formalities done we had a slow drive to Tsendze, arrived and pitched camp (tent and kitchen) and again did a short drive.
Back at camp at gate closing Cath took the boys for a shower and i started the fire and had the umpteenth beer (really needed it!). The boys were a bit agitated with the long drive and had to spend some time venting their energy but at last all settled and we had a great dinner. Sightings for the day included a huge number of elephant herds, buffalo herds, general game but no giraffes or any of the cats. We did some good birding and was very excited on the plans for the next day.

Hi Micetta, promise to post all the pictures, been a busy morning, our anti poaching team had a hectic week, found more than 20 snares with two snares actually with remains of a kudu and a buffalo. The Tsendze trip was stunning, coming back yesterday just north of Tshokwane we had a excellent sighting - 2 secretary birds and within 10 meters from them 4 Kori Bustard's - we also had a herd of 7 roans close to Tsendze and a herd of Tsesebe.

Tuesday morning up and ready for a cup of coffee, the boys in the shower and dressed for the safari of we go. Our planned route for this day is to go all the way to Shingwedsi and the a return via the dirt road stopping at all the Nshawu water holes. Beers packed, cold drinks and snacks packed and of we go. Again stunning herds of elephant, buffalo and general game. Birding also very good and a perfect way to start the day. Stopping at Shingwedzi we had the must be - pie gravy and chips - and then back on the road. Good general game sightings and then at Nshawu 3 we stopped to look at a ellie bul drinking from the water hole. Good time to take a slow drive back to camp and then .... around the corner a beautiful lioness cross the road and we get to spend some 20 minutes with her, the boys are grinning from ear to ear and fighting to get the best possible pictures (boys are 2.5 and 4 years old). From there we headed to Nshawu and again a good herd of general game and then spotted in the distance a herd of Eland! This just made our day and we decided to end the day on this high note.
Back to camp and starting the fire the boys went for a shower. Me having a cold one and hearing the boys returning to camp side greeting all the campers around us with "Hallo" and " that is a nice camp" and simply chatting about the days sightings without making any sense. Early night for them and us.
