joshilewis-KNP Trip in Photos

Unread postby Josh of the Bushveld » Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:12 pm

Hi all. My last trip to KNP (June-July 2010) wasn't really exciting enough for a full TR, so instead I'll just post some photos. I might elucidate on one or two parts as I go along.

Some Slender Mongooses in a culvert off the road.
ImageThis was on the Sabie River road from Phabeni. As we approached the site, SO remarked "isn't this where the mongooses were last time (in April)?" Sure enough, there they were.

Rhino snoozing in a drainage line. ImageI would love for it to be a blackie, but I'm pretty sure its not.

SO and sister-in-law standing on a rock, making sure there were no snakes nearby on our morning bush walk.

The beautiful small, sleepy Puffie that caused the commotion:

Guinea Fowl crossing

While near Lake Panic looking at birds, a kind old gentleman told us that there had been a leopard on the Doispane Road. We made our way there quickly, not to find a leopard, but this instead:

The cubs were very inquisitive.

In total there were 2 males, 2 females and about 8 cubs

Seems maybe a bit thin?

We saw plenty of Southern Ground-hornbills. We saw some on the drive to our bush walk as well. I asked the guide if they report sightings. He said "nah, that was just a competition".

View at Shithlave Dam on the way out on Sunday afternoon, was quite a nice end. We watched them come down the rise to drink. After about 15 minutes we left. They were still coming down.
