Vonnies' chapter 2

Unread postby Vonnie » Fri Jun 18, 2010 6:02 pm

Here goes!!

We left my place at 2 on Monday morning - car packed easily as there were no tents and stuff to cart along. Very pleased with ourselves!

We drove along and wanted to take the normal offramp to the highway when there were metro police signaling that we should stop and pull off to the side of the road   We obliged.

A scene ensued that is worthy of a tale of it's own!! I am not going to elaborate but it left me 100% irate.

We wasted half an hour in negotiating with this person in uniform before he let us go....

We saw grey heron, cocodile, fish eagle and hippo even before we reached the official Malelane gate! :D A good sign for things to come!

I am always impressed with the crisp uniforms of the guys at the gates! :)

They galantly saluted us through the gate and we felt like royalty! :)

We drove and drove and saw nothing worth reporting - a few lilac breasted rollers, starlings and yellow billed hornbills.

Our first camp was Pretoriuskop, but as the check in time is now 14:00, we had time to kill.

We decided to take the turn off to Berg & Dal as my sister has never been to that camp.

Low and behold! :D Next to the road is a mating pair of lions!!!!!!! We snapped pic's, oohd and aahd!!

What a nice start to a trip!!

I'm back!! :D Was without a laptop for a long time but managed to reposses it!!

At Berg & Dal we stocked up on cold water and followed the sight impaired hiking trail. We sat looking out over the water and marvelled at the fact how clean, quiet and beautiful this camp is!

Then we got going to Pretoriuskop.

We arrived there and all was fine - our accommodation was neat, clean and comfortable.

When I booked, the person on the other end of the phone explained that it was suitable for disabled people. Nothing wrong! So everything should be!

But on further inspection we found that the shower door was not frosted - crystal clear!!  Do disabled people have to do their ablutions in full view of the rest of the world???
