I like to follow the roads for this week... having wonderful memories to H10 and S29.
Starting with the H10 (first 10k):

It was a rainy day in february 2007 when we left Lower Sabie to follow the H10... not far after the bridge over the Sabie river we saw these lionesses on the road....

Then in 2009 (november) we were on the S29 since I promised my wife to see Cheetah that day.....and what happened ..... :)
We were with these beautiful cheetah brothers till they went after about 45 minutes :

I love just sitting by the Sabie Causeway and listening to the river and watching the "fishermen", especially the last two visits we had this year as it was very full and an asolute delight to see and hear. We have not seen it so full for many many years.

These were taken early morning on 22 September, 2009 while we were on a Morning game drive on the Mlondozi Loop Road (S29).

Mother and her 5 kids feeding at a just killed Impala. They were joined by Will and Harry, who promptly stole the Impala from Mom and her new brood. It was early morning, raining lightly and still fairly dark, so the pictures aren't the best. We were totally mesmerized by seeing Eight Cheetah all at once, though my wife wanted to go out and chastize Will and Harry for stealing the breakfast from mom and her kids.

A few minutes after seeing all of the Cheetah, who we watched for 30 minutes, we spotted a small band of Zebra while on our way back to Lower Sabie for breakfast. Not much else was out and about in the rain that morning, which gave us the opportunity to do laundry before moving to Skukuza.

We decided this little guy should be named Elvis, because of his attitude and the little upturned lip snarl.

again, sorry for the quality, it was pretty dark and no tripod available.

Aat, just one question about your exquisite cheetah sighting: you say they were two brothers, but in one pic it looks as if they're mating? Or are they different cheetah at different times?

OWN,
They were not mating but just playing / socializing together. This was one of the best sightings we had in Kruger. So long with us and so close ... and no other cars all the time ....
All pics were made during this sighting. Now you asked me that question I think I can remember that we could see that it were to male cheetahs.
They were playing around, giving "social" hugs with the heads, laying down together, walked a few meters , roaming the area , almost all behaviour you can think of.
Just looking back in my files I made about 100+ photo's of them.
In many situations they were just 5 meters away up to may be 50 meters, sometimes walking just near the car. I remember telling my wife "you see...I promised you cheetah....with a big smile"
In time we have had more Cheetah sightings on the S29 but this one was the best.

Last February , i have been always looking after ...ostriches :)
We saw one , yes , only one on the S29 , just after the gravel road leading to Mlondozi . It was a little special , as we left Mlondozi because it begun to rain a litlle and to thunder too much ...
And a few minutes later ..stop ..hopefully the boys saw her , walking in the rain ..
Here some pictures took by my older son

Unfortunately , there was a very very big thunderstorm , and i was asked by my younger son to go back quickly to the camp ; he was really terrified , and until we arrived at Lower-Sabie he had the time to terrify us ,as we heard several time : don't laugh , it's true , people die like that in there cars burning
I am a little annoyed with physical sciences , so i was not sure he was right :hmz:
But he was raining so much and the lower-sabie river level was already so high that i was afraid the bridge could be closed with flooding..
We did'nt saw any other animal , had to drive very slowly with very strong rain , but arrived safety

This is a great area for cheetah and lions - great sighting normana53  and have seen our fair share of them.

The S29 is also a good area for the common reedbuck.

A memorable sighting we had on the S29 was a gymnogene (african harrier hawk) hopping from tree to tree and digging into crevices looking for his next meal

Also on the S29

and these guys crossing on the H10

Sorry......but can't resist to add some more related to the route we are following.

Nice birthday present on febr 24th 2008. I celebrated my BD in kruger by getting up very early and going from Lower Sabie to Satara that day.
On the H10 not far with the junction with the S29 we saw this pride on the road... such a very nice welcome in the morning when you just got one year older and "wizer" ? .... :hmz:

Image
and
Image

a bit later we had some Jackall on the road..... I just like to add this picture where both Jackall did not touch the road ....so flying Jackall.... :)

Image

I think much more to come following the route with OWN (Great idea OWN !!)

OWN,

SO and I also love the Mlondozi Loop road and that entire area. Here are a couple more photos from this past September.

These were taken on our early morning game drive. The first looks north and I believe the second was to the northwest.
