Only 4 more sleeps and i'll be in Kruger !
Leaving "flower fountain" saterday morning but have a sleep over at brother's place.
Then leave at +/- 01:00 on monday morning for Kruger, still deciding at which gate to enter - Kruger, Phabeni or Numbi? :hmz:

A wishlist? - not this time. Expectations? - none either.
But I'm sure Kruger will reveal whatever she has to offer on her own.

So, if you have nothing to do, pop in here in the evening and you might find a update. Looking forward to see old friends and meet some new ones at the cricket.
And chatting to those thats left behind

******************************
nocturnal animals
a relief for some
after the days heat
eyes fixed
on the bright stars
look - a shooting star
hyena's patrolling the camp fence
a mighty roar

a braai fire
shadows been cast
by flickering flames
a smell of wors and tjops
the soft whisper of words
between friends made
knowing there's someone
someone who understand
******************************

Day 1:
8 March 2010
Good evening everyone from Lower Sabie :D
The fire is lit and soon i'll be braaing a tjop and wors :D

Left Vereeniging today just after 03:00 and arrived at Numbi Gate just after 08:00 (Thanks for posting Matthys and Dalene!)
Had a much needed brekkie at Pretoriuskop, and made my way to LS. The south is beautiful and green, especially the Pretoriuskop area! Animal sightings were scares and only saw my first impala's just before Skukuza. Plenty of cameleons though.
And a few ellies.

Check in at LS (and at the gate) took me less than 5 minutes. to the staff who has treated me well.

Had a power siesta and left camp 16:30, doing the Mlondozi loop. Still not much activity, a few ellies and warthogs but still just awesome to be in the park again.

Here with a few photo's that i took today...

Day 2:
09 March 2010 - Morning

Slept like a log last nite, but was awake just after 05:00 and left camp just after gate opening time. Did again the Mlondozi road and then the Muntshe loop and back to camp.

A special sighting this morning was a civet crossing the road but disappeared to quickly in the long grass to even think about taking a :cam:

Some impalas, ellies, giraffe, one white rhino and a black backed jackal were amongst the sightings to be seen. The Muntshe loop were very quiet with no sightings at all :(

Now off to have a brekkie, and then a drive towards CB....

So, I had a delicious breakfast at the restaurant....
and head down the tar road towards CB, then H5, S114, lunch at Skukuza and back to LS.

The bats at the restaurant in Skukuza was a welcome sighting

As for any other sightings during this drive - lets just say I will add a few more roads to the so called list of "roads with no animal life on it" Think the H5 deserves to be at the top of that list

Wrong time, wrong place and wrong road.... :slap:

Will try again in 30 minutes time
This calls for new tactics.....

:hmz: How did you know Matthys? 8)

30 minutes out on the old Tshokwane road and 30 minutes back to make camp in time before gate closes, and only saw a few dozen impalas.

Even the bird life are avoiding me. Seen lots of European rollers, starlings, yellow-billed hornbills and some unidentified species, but no raptors or vultures :hmz:

Heading tomorrow morning early towards CB to meet our special guests, who will also be attending the cricket weekend !

Hopefully tomorrow

Boories, . Seeing nothing is something in itself. Please send some leftovers with the three guests. We are meeting them tomorrow night for a braai.

Too late Elzet, just got back - you should have asked me earlier....

Day 3:
10 March 2010

The morning started with a sms from Joekin at 04:46 that he is in Nelspruit and will be soon entering via Malelane gate.
Left camp at opening time to meet our mystery guests at CB. Took the S28, Duke waterhole, continued on the S137 and then the S130 back to the tar road. Got later a sms they are running a bit late, so was I but still got to CB before them and ordered a sharmie and coffee. As I was about to sit down I heard someone calling my name as they drove in through the gate...

Yet again the morning started slowly regards to animals with only a giraffe on the S28.
But it got better once turning onto the S137. A few ellies, then white rhino, impalas, zebras, wildebeest and then finally the first cats of the trip. A mating pair of lions. Spent a 30 odd minutes, taking video footage. (will try do upload later today).

Had a wonderful chat and brekkie with our mystery guests. They are indeed wonderful people ! :D
They met Joekin on the way, also meet Dotty and apparently their a Moose loose in the park.
:naughty: CC, nope its not Mitch or Miranda, but a Moose from Cape Town, I believe
She might be here in LS, so will keep an eye open for her.

My drive back to camp via the S28 was also more productive with plenty of general game. So looks like things are indeed improving here

And as I type this our mystery guest just saw cheetah on the hippo pools road

Till a bit later :yaya:

Just back from a fabulous braai ! 8)

And yes, I did found the Moose  At first I left a note at her place but decided to look her up again as I was leaving for the braai. Met her on her way to her camp site.

Had a wonderful time with DavenJan and Moose.
The spare ribs done on the fire was to die for, the company even beter :D And they were perfect hosts to a great evening

Sent Moose your regards, Anne-Marie and Micetta!
What a brave lady, driving straight through from Karoo NP to Kruger   And seems she will be around and pop in on saterday at the cricket

Early morning drive tomorrow before I leave for Skukuza, so time to catch on some ZZZzzz's....

Hope all the animals have heard via the bush telegraph that you are in the park and are lining up along the side of the roads to cheer you on.

Sorry to disappoint you but sadly they didn't heard via the bush telegraph that i'm around except for the one ellie and few impalas that did got the message :?

Arrived at Skukuza just after 12:00. The 'mites are slowly starting to arrive. Saw Joekin and Baffers (and mystery guests), ecojunkie and Bigman are around and got word via the bush telegraph that DinkyBird and Hawk are safely entered the park...

Till I have some more worthy news, its over and out from Skukuza

 @ Shi - Enjoyed what was left of my leave. Sadly all over now and have to start working again tomorrow. I believe I have a few more video clips to share and stories.
But you all must be patience for that

Just to add to MM's post - what a great way to end a wonderful week (and cricket weekend) in the park with a dinner at the Selati restaurant with two very special :littleangel:'s to keep me company on Sunday evening! 8) And to top it, a last morning drive until just before check out time. I have enjoyed every minute on both these occasions with the two Angels.
