KRUGER 2009

1. Berg en Dale 4/5/6.10

The separation was painful for me, I was pampered, spoiled, and surrounded, it's good in the midst of a long journey, by a wonderful family, without forgetting the animals.
The flight was pleasant and on time. I had an appointment with Virginia, the Salamanda's sister and her husband, who had offered to bring me a lantern and particularly a new saddle for Daniel
They were waiting for me at the exit the plane, it's nice to have someone to greet you. We went to the car rental company where I intended to change model, Atos, for greater, given the amount of luggage I had  . The contract said I could "upgrade" at the airport .... for this, they must have cars ... there were none  . One don't propose to change vehicle if one can't :rtm:

In short, we put everything in that tiny car and I still need place for purchases, including a fridge !!!!!
The car owner took my mobile number, if he had a car a little bit bigger in the coming days.

thanks again Salamanda, Virginia and SO

Virginia and her husband showed me the way to go to Malelane and I left on this highway, unknown for me, without too much traffic, but as driving on the left side is not my habit, with great caution.
At Malelane, I missed the road to the Spar  and I arrived at the Pick and Pay. Purchases have been longer than expected ... all in English, see and understand the expiration dates, find a fridge and a small one for the picnics, water, wood ... a truck load !!
An employee of this commerce gave me a helping hand to put everything in the car, and it has been difficult. Fortunately I was the only one in the car.
I quickly got the Malelane Gate, I took my license and I "run" to Berg-en-Dale.
The first animals I've seen are impalas, one giraffe and an elephant. An elephant monstrous compared to my tiny car!

At Berg-en-Dale, I received the key to the bungalow No. 38 and with my cameras bag and a few small bags, I enter in the bungalow where there were cookies and fruits at the entrance to the kitchen :
Ho! There is a welcome gift
Nay, the bungalow was already occupied… I left again with my luggages, up to reception who did not understand what I was saying... :wall: and who eventually thanks me for my understanding .... I waited 1 hour or 2, the nightfall , I do not like the dark, when I received a new key to the bungalow No. 42, which was not at all a "perimeter" :naughty:
In short, without a flashlight (it was in the bag) I went back to look for the cottage, without luggage…… I need my eyes and my two hands to find the path, find the lock and then enter in the new housing, in the dark, but fortunately, this time it was empty.
Needless to say, that night I did not make a fire and I not ate so much ....

Tomorrow is another day, we'll see clearer, to literally and figuratively!

routes : the loops, Majulu, Timfeneni, Mlambane, Gardenia Hide

Indeed, the next day all was forgotten
Kruger, I'm coming
Determined to go through all the loops, I get into my tiny car, and the first dirt road has been disastrous for it. The gear lever go out by themselves, because of dips and bumps and, I had to hold the shifter at all times… I accelerated in the "empty"

I first encountered a rhino and her baby, a little shy, but so photogenic

then kudu and giraffe, trees in bloom

Just before arriving at the hide of Gardenia, I "lifted" a green pigeon, but had no time to take a photo. At Gardenia, when I arrived, a small herd of elephants made their appearance and to my delight had a masterful mud bath. Two warthogs tried to approach but the elephants did not agree and they had to wait, until they go away, for finally, have access to the mud

There were also magnificent birds, like …

and of course flowers

a great first day, made of heat and sunlight.

This morning I decided to go to Petroriuskop and return, and when I come back, make a stop at Afsaal.

I started with a lion, wounded in one eye, a fight night :|

then a Tawny Eagle

and few vultures, a little further, scurrying around a carcass. Impossible to know more, too much bushes :?

and then Tortoises

zebras, white Rhino, Buffalo

and again something like fire

…. but only the burning rubbish ... under controle

At Afsaal, it has not been the same. An elephant, or rather two attempted to enter the Picnics spot, to the delight of some, the others fled away. I'm obviously stayed and watched how they manage the approach. In fact, only one, wanted to make troubles, the other was more aloof. He eventually topple the garbages, try to penetrate beneath the pergola and the guard finally asked for help ....

A helicopter arrived, flying just above of him and... he run away. This one, I think will never return

At the reception I met Raymond and I decided for a morning drive, for the next day, tonight was "fully booked", like almost every day
Then I try to connect my lap top at internet office, with success :D
For the first time I bring a lap top, to watch my pictures, except in the Kgalagadi due to the lack of electricity.
It was a great idea… a good idea of my brother !

Then I'm going to "put in my head" to find Martie, but the camping is vast and I have done several times around. Finally I recognized the two ribbons, yellow and red on a car and I found Martie. What a wonderful woman, radiant, friendly, attentive, very important to me, that I gibberish into English. We have many laughs. She showed me her latest photos, the fantastic job she does to maintain his blog every day and everything in the right mood, even with the vagaries of connections

At return, I had just enough time to pack my bags and leave the bungalow on time!
Then I went to say hello to Ecojunkie, at Malena Camp. Her caravan is planted at the entrance of the camp overlooking the fence. It is well established, a little bit like Martie, and she is also very attentive. I havn't had the pleasure of an "evening drive"with her, too bad :(
I think she was with the "AAA" on my return to Berg-en-Dale. This will be for another time.

And I drove to Petroriuskop, via Afsaal where everything was calm.
I first met two guards on bicycles
Image

and a herd of elephants in the distance.

I arrived in mid afternoon at Petroriuskop where I was assigned in the bungalow No 1, in a large circle of grass (what remains of grass) with some Impalas. A very nice bungalow with a large fridge inside ... which meant beware to the monkeys !
Indeed, they were present early in the morning and later in the afternoon ...

I made a fire, according to the instructions received in Cape Town

I left early, determined to return during the hot hours in "my" home.

On a termite mound, some mongooses behaved like crazy. I had time to take a picture, before they disappeared and never returned

then… like a mirage

At Nyamundwa I have found some hippos and a turtles.

En route I met Martie, beaming at the wheel of her car and she told me she had seen the "big five" this morning
I had a nap … like my sightings of this day

Some people asked me what I watched, and with amazement they also recognized the special shape of the horns of this antelope.

A little later, I arrived just on time for the bathing of elephants

and monitor a Fish Eagle on my right side ... who suddenly flew away, spotted a prey, and emerged with a tiny fish, that so early, other birds have coveted

I take some pictures and wait to see if she might move a little bit, and YES, I perceive a cub peeping behind the herbs

I arrived at Skukuzza early afternoon. I received the key to the bungalow No. 145.
I unpacked my bags and I left on the road in the direction of Lake Panic, making another trip to the Python, always without success.
The cache of Lake Panic is really fantastic, there were many people, including some who spoke a little strong, but they do not stay long, fortunately :)
An African Open-billed Stork was preening and gave me the opportunity to take some nice pictures

I continued my way towards the Phabeni's Gate where I found a hyena, pregnant it seems to me, completely frightened by the number of cars…. that can even not stop their engines

I returned home, I do a small laundry, prepared the fire in front of the cinema screen, there was a film about primates ... and it's hard to cook while watching a movie ...

I then looked at my photos on my laptop on the terrace, the weather was so good, and presto ! in bed.

I received in the afternoon a phone of the owner's car, telling me to have a bigger car for me and asked me to come Monday at the counter. I went to see at the place reserved for cars rentals and apparently nothing interested me ... except a Mercedes, black…
