I was not going to post that my sister had gone to kruger but seen as though they have had such lovely sightings so far i couldnt resist...

24/9 - Skukuza. Went in through Malelane gate and first animal....elllie... also hyena, 4 sightings of rhino, a rather aggressive lioness and more hyena.
25/9 - Orpen. A beautiful lioness with cubs, a leopard (IN A TREE! ), black backed jackal, a herd of over 100 buffalo came and drank right by the waterhole at their rondawel, more lion, ellies, rhino and a martial eagle.
26/9 - Orpen. She just phoned me now to say she is having a hunters dry on her verandah and is watching two big bull ellies casually meandering to the waterhole, impalas, zebra and wildebeest all in and around the waterhole. This morning they saw another pride of lion and plenty black backed jackal. Also went to another waterhole on one of the loops and came across 3 hyena who wouldnt let any of the antelope come down to drink.

we went in at Malelane and took the tar road to Berg en dal.
Saw a nice herd of buffs and at 8:00 this male lion was already sleeping in the shade

General game was good in the regions with good sightings of zebra and giraffe
On the S114 to croc bridge we had a huge herd of buffs that blockrd the raod for about 20min. While we was sitting in the car with the car temp on 43 degrees.


Saw some nice ellies in the river. Overall condition of the bush is actually very bad there is almost no water left in the region only the croc river.
Took the Tar road to lower sabie and skukuza were we had a giraffe in the tree could only see its tail, and some more ellies.

On our way out at Phabeni we only saw ellies and the common impala or two. But by now i didnt blame them the temp was on 48d.

All and all it was quite a good day but extemely hot and dry, hope the rain will come soon for the Kruger and surrounding areas.

27/28 - P/kop.... saw some more nice sightings of rhino, elephant, buffalo, bb jackal, hyena. My sister said its much cooler today compared to the last two days (40s!!) and felt the need to put a cardigan on....

last night for her tomorrow night again at P/kop .. here is wishing her some wild dog!

Just back from a visit to friends in Tzaneen and as we all know, lightning will strike you if you're so close and you don't go !! So we went and stayed over in Orpen on Sunday. It was incredibly hot and dry, but wonderful as usual. Went on a night drive and saw genets,honey badger, hyenas, rhinos,bush babies, owls, hares and scorpio ( the one in the sky) Best sighting was a group of about 10 sable at the Airforce dam.Haven't seen any in the last 5 trips. Left late the next day and only got back in Gauteng at 8pm, exhausted but happy !
