He crossed the road but continued towards Nossob

and back to the tree spraying

Note the tattoo... he must be known as 'King T'

After about an hour spent with him we decided to move on.

We left P and family to enjoy him.....

He seemed to be bothered by something in that massive paw..

May have stood on a thorn ... which needed removing
What a great sighting !

Re: the grass net -- as I am led to understand -- a radiator cover to stop the grass seeds from collecting and perhaps starting to burn :hmz:
No doubt the fundis will add more info.

You posted at the same time
More great pics
Richard -- the marked lions are, I think, ones that have strayed out of the park and been brought back. There is a topic on it somewhere -- will see if I can find it.

@p@m sorry missed your postings, working away  ...thanks for the info re the T. It looked like a scar/tear but could well be one of them.

So thats what the guys have got covering their bull bars. I thought it was to protect the vehicle against stones and dust!

If the fire danger is to the vehicle, then no, no problem. Not a lot of tall grass on the 'middle mannetjie' If the danger to the veld, then the vehicles after us did not report any problems, so maybe just lucky.

Very unexpectantly we found a herd of Kudus, so far down.
Last year we told by the young lady at Nossob reception that kudu occur in the Grootkolk area. She had not yet seen a male in KTP.

A radio technician told me that he thought that the park had brought kudu in.

John said that they had come across from Botswana side.

We also saw 7 kudu without the male at Grootkolk last year, Ingrid.

At the Nossob hide we heard a hammering and shooting 'blind' located a wood pecker hole...

Image

And then finally...a Goldentailed woodpecker.....the info guide has it as 'rare, even once-off sightings' and we saw one Craig Lochardt WH as well

Image

Not much activity at the hide , but eventually the reliable BBJ showed up.. .

We booked an evening drive, the only one for the trip.

Plenty of clothes and blankets were taken, as we expected it to get cold...and we were not wrong :(

The truck was empty when we got there and so I 'booked' the seat with the spot light...my sightings were going to be dependant on my abilities...I have used a spot light before with some good 'spottings'.

A family of 6 and a young Australian lady and the 2 of us set off for the sunset stop.

John posed for a pic that we promised to post on the forum

John spoke about the wilderness trail soon to be opened north of Nossob. It would be 'run' during the winter months. Press were coming to preview it. 3 Days and 2nights.

and then we were off...lights on...

Being on the left of the vehicle I would have expected to have had the most action.

But there were only distant green eyes in the river bed or on the other side.

All our interesting 'spottings' were on the right
such as the spotted eagle owls

Image

Image

Image

then an AWC a little far off the road...only glowing eyes on the pic.....not 5 minutes later another AWC, sitting on a log...a little closer...pic as evidence

Image

and what is a night drive without spring hares.....always entertaining

Image

John had followed leopard spoor but alas not to be.....

Not many sightings ...but worth the try. :D

DAY 7: 15 JULY 2009

For the first and only time, SO was up before me (woman's intuition..more at the end of the day) and had packed up before I got up.

I asked if we were going to leave something behind, she asked what do I mean, I said we are sleeping here tonight.....oh

It was my job to repack the fridge and freezer....

We headed north again and had a morning of birds

First up an eagle....a bit far
