Glad you enjoyed that!!!!

The rest of the walk was quiet, but as we got near the vehicle we found more zebs, giraffes and warthogs about near a waterhole.

Then back to camp for a brunch and rest before going out again in the afternoon. We walked in a river bed near a spot where we had early seen a lion, but no luck finding it. Then off to Leeupan for sundowners, watched by buffalo bulls, a rhino, and a hippo.

On Saturday morning we decided to walk to the rock paintings (elephants) near the floating 'bubble' rock. But as we left the road into camp and got to the tar Imberbe decided on the spur of the moment to check the giraffe carcass just past the bridge in the opposite direction. Good move!

We found lions scattered all over the road.....literally! Big daddy, mommas, babies (at least 3 different ages). We spent a while watching them.....the cubs playful, one even determined to use mom as a vantage point to watch us.
Eventually though we had to move off and leave them. Our walk was good......and we came across a couple of rhino unexpectedly behind a termite mound. Fortunately they did not hear us coming, and we were able to move to a safer point to view them and then away again without them knowing we were there.......which is the ideal way to view animals on foot!

Back at camp we saw the lion pride moving in the river bed opposite us.

That afternoon we had another walk. This time we found wildebeest and zebs a-plenty, warthogs, and again rhinos. We stayed next to the vehicle for sundowners, and had an elephant herd come close to us. The wind was blowing towards them so they picked up our scent and moved away quickly. 3 bulls followed the herd too.

Our final morning was windy, rainy and cold so we could not walk. We packed up leisurely and took the guests back to Skukuza......... A good camp!

Last Saturday we did a short walk from camp with folk staying here (a church group had booked the whole camp for the weekend). It was quiet, but again good to be out in the bush and seeing tracks, and talking about the things we could see around us.

As we got close to camp on the way back we found the route blocked by a steep-sided drainage line and had to detour a bit. Eventually we found a place to cross, and the 1st rifle went ahead to check the area before I joined her with the guests. We then stopped to talk about a couple of trees before crossing the final bit. Suddenly there was the sound of water being disturbed and a hippo emerged just below us!!!!! I started to move the guests back to a safer rocky area while my friend was watching the hippo, but fortunately it took the easy route away from us up the opposite bank. It stood and watched us a while, so we shouted and it moved off. We continued back to camp in safety.

In the evening we did a late night drive with the group. I was luckier with my group in the small vehicle than my friend with the bigger truck. We saw rhinos, ellies, buffs, hyenas, lioness, duikers, impalas, scrub hares, and a few more that I cannot remember now! Even found them a large chameleon......

Quite a jumble of things, but did get a new camp cookware set as mine has now been adopted by a guiding friend! He has used it so much more than I have that he deserves it.

Today I had a trip to Skukuza to help with some filing of things for archives. It was expected to take a day - and maybe a few hours more - but we were finished before lunch! Mainly because the manager I was doing it for stayed with me, so I could ask her about a few things I was not sure of straight away, and the department that would store the stuff later sent 2 folk to help as well. So while I got the files out and checked them, the manager labelled boxes, and the 2 helpers packed the files into the archives boxes. On my own it would have been a tiring job, but it ended up being fun.

On the way through I saw ellies, wild dogs near the Renosterpan turning, and then 2 ostriches near Afsaal, also zebs, kudus, warthogs, impalas, ellies. And a couple of traffic jams...... Simply had to get past and did not even try to see what they were about.

Outside the store area we were working in was a mum warthog with a tiny baby......only one though, and I suspect she has lost others to the hyenas prowling around the camp.

On the return trip lots of ellies about, zebs, kudus, impalas, warthogs, and a male lion lying right next to the road, but with 3 cars almost blocking the road already.......so I enjoyed a quick look as I negotiated my way around the cars and kept going.

Then decided that I had earned an afternoon off to do some laundry and zzzzzzzzzzzz-ing!
