Back from bush camp......Had a good time.....too much food though!!!!.......although I am not really complaining......

Once again time was against us and the first evening was just a sundowner trip.....all the way to Orpen Dam. First morning we walked from Nwatinhlopfu dam, that evening a short walk from Leeupan, second morning a walk in the Tshokwane area at a secret location(!), and that evening a walk from Jones Dam to the gravel road, and final morning walk from the Sabie high level bridge back to camp along the Sand River.

We did well with sightings! Serval, waterbuck, zebras, ellies (lots and lots!), wildebeest, impalas, warthogs, several civets (even one in camp with us!), genets, duikers, steenbokkies, klipspringers, kudus, buffalo, nyalas, rhinos (one on a walk peering at us round a termite heap....just 10m from us!), and 6 leopards in one day. 2 of them together in a tree with a kill while we were on the way home from a walk. Please note the absence of lions....we heard them 2 nights, but saw none at all.

One of the nicest things (for me!) was that the bed in the hoender-hok has been replaced with a nice new comfortable one.....it made a huge difference!!!!

This sounds like an amazing bush camp EJ, with so many wonderful sightings .... on foot!

Six Leopards in one day .... that is absolutely wishful thinking for most of us!

Glad you had a comfortable bed! So important for a good night's rest before the walks of the next day!

Yesterday I ended up with 2 drives! Morning drive with Impyim and husband from camp, and sunset drive with 8 guests (2 from camp and 6 from outside).

The morning drive was relatively quiet, but we enjoyed everything, so it did not matter. Lots of birds, ellies, rhinos, giraffes, impalas, duiker, steenbok, hyenas..... We chatted a lot, and just appreciated being out in the bush. At one point we were told about a leopard but it was nowhere to be seen.

The sunset drive ended up being a big 5 one for the camp guests and me. The leopard was in a tree right near the gate, but was showing signs of jumping down as we drove through the cars (the guests did get a quick photo). It had gone by the time I returned with the other guests. We had a big breeding herd of ellies and some more later, lots of rhinos in one spot, 2 lots of buffalo bulls, and a single lioness which moved off the road and then lay down next to us in the grass giving everyone a good view. She kept her eyes on us almost all the time. All had impalas and scrub hares, duiker, giraffe, zebs.

Today will be a quieter day for me.....got to get a new tax disc for my car, and then drive to Skukuza this afternoon. I am spending tomorrow out in the bush with folk working on geological information gathering....mostly photos tomorrow. Will stay tonight, and maybe tomorrow if we finish too late to drive home.

The drives sound awesome EJ! Actually there is never nothing to see. Searching for something is part of the joy of a morning, sunset or night drive. Just to be out there in the bush is so exciting!
