Got through to Nelspruit with a friend on Friday and paid deposit for new engine for my car......now to wait for them to get it and fit it, hopefully not too long.

Meanwhile confined to camp......

Today sat in the sun outside for a while, and watched birds and squirrels and even a yellow mongoose - plus impalas, warthogs, baboons and monkeys. A little band of dwarf mongooses also visited me......standing up on their hind legs like meerkats to study me, and running away if I moved but quickly coming back again. Very cute!

Tomorrow going to the office early with staff (only way to get there at present) as there is a lot of work to do, and will work out how to get home later......would walk but I don't think management would be too happy.....

I'm sure they will not be happy if you try to walk home EJ!

Lovely to have so many awesome sightings while relaxing in the sun! Are you feeling better after your cold and flu? :gflower:

Hoping for news of my car today....

Chirinda is in camp for 2 nights after doing the bush camp, so we had a meal together last night (pooling resources) and she dropped me off at the office early today before going off on a long loop drive. When she is back she might come to fetch me and we may then go out again together later.

Meanwhile office work calls......course programme and preparation to sort out. A 'learner' has also been allocated to us and is at BnD at the moment, we will have to sort out transport and how to fit her into the picture. I think she is also intended to help out in Skukuza too.

Had hyena and ellie about during the night.....and the sugar cane harvest is happening opposite camp so a noisy time....

Busy week with office work and then Indaba. Tried to get car on Friday, but on the final test drive they said it had no power so needed to sort that out first. Still waiting.....

Tonight I did a night drive for BnD. 4 local guests. It was a mixed drive with some good sightings and long periods with nothing. Had scrub hares and impalas, ellies, buffalo, rhinos, hyenas, zebras, several genets, bushbaby, civet and a spotted eagle owl that let us get right next to it and continued to sit on the road looking at us. Strangely none of the guests had cameras! On my home after dropping guests at BnD I had a pack of hyenas and a porcupine.

Now just had a hot choccie and going to bed.

Was asked to do morning drive for BnD, but as that was only in the middle of the night drive, and the sunset drive had been a 10-seater so I could have done that instead, I said no. I would have been too tired and that is not fair on the guests.

I honestly hope your car will be fixed TODAY EJ!

Lovely sightings on the night drive, but I cannot believe that the guests did not have cameras with them!?! :hmz:

I have had that a couple of times before. Some folk feel that they do not get good photos on night drives so do not bother and just enjoy the drive and sightings without feeling they have to record it on photos.

Back from sunset drive - long periods of nothing, but despite that good sightings of impalas, scrub hares, rhinos, ellies, waterbuck, duiker, kudu, couple of genets, civet, giant eagle owl and 2 spotted eagle owls, hippos, porcupine, hyena and leopard. On my way home I had 2 separate civets, genet, spotted eagle owl, and ellie.

Sounds like an interesting night drive EJ. So sorry about the car. To me this sounds like unacceptable service but i don't know all the ins and outs, so maybe it isn't. Hope you get it back soon, frustration is an awful thing!

Workshop manager called....thinks the injectors on the new engine are faulty, but needs permission of firm supplying engine before he can try to replace anything....he should actually remove and return the whole engine! I have given up all hope of getting car back soon. With all the things happening over the next few days and week it may be almost 2 weeks before I even have opportunity to go and get it anyway.

Off on Friday to Skukuza to run Orientation course (getting lift up with friends going to help at Nursery over weekend), then on Sunday when course ends I go straight on to Sand River Bush Camp as 2nd guide. Finish on Wednesday, and have to wait there until Thursday to be fetched when my boss has to deliver food for another course starting (and running from the bush camp). I might even have to stay on until the next Sunday as at present there is nobody to be the rifle bearer for the practical parts of the course! No hardship other than trying to work out what to pack for how long......
